ASSOCIATE PRODUCT ENGINEER
Engineering | Auburn, WA (Hybrid) | Full-time, Exempt
Reports To: Senior Design & Development Engineer Work Arrangement: Hybrid (Auburn, WA)
ABOUT PRO REFRIGERATION
PRO Refrigeration designs and manufactures industrial glycol chiller systems for the dairy, brewery, winery, and food processing industries. Headquartered in Auburn, WA with production in Mocksville, NC, we are a growing mid-market manufacturer with strong customer relationships, a skilled team, and clear momentum heading into our next phase of growth. The production floor is our largest department and the center of how we deliver on our commitments.
POSITION SUMMARY
Every day, PRO customers come to us with a problem: a product that needs to run colder, hotter, or more reliably than it does today. As an Associate Product Engineer, you'll help figure out how to solve it.
You'll work closely with our Senior Design & Development Engineer, tackling problems in product design, process, and installation. You'll evaluate customer applications and site conditions to help work out the best way to cool or heat their products, and turn that thinking into real designs and installations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
● Evaluate customer applications and determine the best way to cool or heat their product, translating real-world requirements into site layout sketches (chiller placement, piping runs, clearances, utility connections)
● Solve process and installation challenges by developing process flow diagrams (P&IDs or simplified process schematics) for customer-facing and internal use
● Take on product improvement projects end to end, including research, concept sketches, calculations, and prototype coordination, to solve design problems before they reach the field
● Build the technical prints and data packages that power our marketing literature, spec sheets, and sales tools, helping customers and our sales team make confident decisions
● Create training materials (diagrams, cutaways, process explanations) that explain how and why our systems work, for internal teams, dealers, and customers
● Dig into engineering analysis as assigned, including load calculations, component sizing, and other problem-solving work behind our designs
● Develop and maintain IO manuals and product documentation that keep customers and teammates moving fast
ROLE SCOPE
This role is focused on solving real customer problems and building engineering experience on standard products. It does not include manufacturing drawings, production floor support, or BOM/design sign off authority. All final product design decisions and Bills of Materials are reviewed and approved by the Senior Design & Development Engineer.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING
● A BS in Mechanical Engineering (or related field) and working knowledge of CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent)
● Curiosity about how refrigeration and thermal systems work; prior experience is a plus, not a requirement
● The communication skills to explain a technical solution clearly, on paper and in person
GROWTH PATH
This is a launchpad role, not a landing spot. It's a feeder position into product engineering at PRO. Build a track record on standard products and improvement work, and there's a clear path toward increased design ownership and responsibility. The Senior Design & Development Engineer will be your direct mentor.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Annual base salary range: $70,000 to $92,000, based on qualifications and experience.
● Paid vacation upon hire and paid sick leave in accordance with WA Paid Sick Leave law
● Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance
