General Statement of Job:
This position, under the supervision and direction of a Registered Nurse, provides delegated student health care services within the School Health Program as Unlicensed Assistive Personnel. The primary function is to provide care during the school day to students for illness, injury, and medication administration.The duties include, but are not limited to first aid, medication administration, asthma, allergy, diabetes, seizure management, covid-19, and flu screening and testing. Employees in this position are responsible for performing non-licensed, competency-tested, delegated activities in compliance with procedures, protocols, and documented care plans.
Essential Functions:
- Perform non-licensed and delegated Registered Nurse (RN) functions upon completion of training and competency testing.
- Consult with the Registered Nurse for direction on non-delegated tasks.
- Administer medications to students prescribed by a licensed health care provider with parental consent, following established protocols and care plans.
- Properly receive, handle, and store medications; maintain temperature logs; manage medication expiration.
- Provide first aid and injury care to students with urgent health needs according to procedures and protocols upon completion of training and competency testing.
- Assist students with diabetes management upon completion of training and competency testing.
- Assist students with allergy, asthma, and seizure management upon completion of training and competency testing.
- Demonstrate skills and knowledge of infection control measures; maintain infection control and use of PPE as directed per School Health guidelines.
- Administer COVID-19 and FLU tests with Parent/Guardian documented consent, upon completion of training and competency testing.
- Float to other school locations to supplement and assist Registered Nurses or perform duties at another school location as required.
- Document in student electronic health files care, treatments, and observations as directed.
- Maintain proper filing of documentation.
- Review and update student electronic health files, forwarding them to appropriate destinations when students transfer to another school within the District.
- Navigate the electronic student health system, being proficient with a standard computer and keyboard, including but not limited to software programs.
- Measure/take vital signs, blood pressure, and related data as defined in the physician's order and document.
Report all problems when observed to the Registered Nurse. Complete additional duties as assigned.

Additional Duties:
Emergency duties may be required that includes assisting community or hospital-based organizations or staffing emergency community shelters. Staff may be directed to perform other emergency duties based on clinical experience including, but not limited to, responses to threats or disasters, man-made or natural.
Access to reliable transportation required.

Education:
High school diploma or GED required. Either certificate or diploma from an accredited Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program, Medical Assistant (MA) program, or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program required. Other clinical experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis in lieu of CNA, MA or EMT education requirements.
Experience:
Health care related experience preferred.
Certification:
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association required. First Aid Certification from either American Red Cross or the American Heart Association is required within 30 days of hire and will be offered on-site.
Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) in the State of Florida required. For Medical Assistants (MA), certification from AAMA, AMT, NHA, or NCCT preferred. In lieu of CNA, MA or EMT qualifications, other clinical experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
