Position Overview:
Caldwell Snyder Gallery is seeking an organized, experienced, and collaborative Art Handler & Logistics Assistant to support the safe handling, transportation, and coordination of artwork. This role combines hands-on art handling and assisting with logistics coordination.
Key Responsibilities:
- Handle, pack, and prepare artwork for transport, installation, and storage.
- Install gallery exhibitions, regularly rehang walls, and pull artwork from storage to present to clients
- Maintain inventory and create stock transfers to track movement of all artwork between three locations.
- Track shipments, maintain records, and ensure accuracy in inventory and documentation
- Maintain the gallery space (spackle & paint walls, adjust lighting, etc.) and ordering art handling supplies
- Create condition reports for all incoming art work.
This Role will also assist the gallery leadership with:
- Coordinating multi-step logistics with shipping companies, art handling vendors, and art consultants
- Creating quick ship quotes for the sales team
- Resolving shipment issues with vendors and carriers
- Negotiating with vendors to secure the best rates
- Building and maintaining relationships with vendors and colleagues to support efficient operations
Requirements:
- 1+ years of experience in art handling, logistics, or related fields preferred
- Experience with packing, crating, and preparing artwork for transport is a must
- Familiarity with gallery or museum installation practices
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to multitask and switch betwen multiple projects based on priority
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lift and move artwork safely (up to 50 lbs or more as required)
- A valid Drivers Licence and a clean driving record
Proficiency with inventory management software is a plus.
