Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and passionate 8th Grade English Language Arts Teacher Long-Term Substitute to join our dynamic educational team. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction in English Language Arts, fostering a positive learning environment, and supporting students' academic growth. This full-time position requires a commitment to engaging students in literature, writing, and critical thinking skills while maintaining a collaborative approach with colleagues and parents.
This 91-day position would be from September 23, 2026 through February 11, 2027. The final nine days may be a day-to-day substitute teacher in another classroom.
A Full time LTS shall be entitled to salary equal to seventy-five (75%) percent of the salary that is reflected on the first step of the salary schedule. A LTS shall be entitled to full benefits from the first day of his/her employment.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement lesson plans that align with the curriculum and state standards for 8th grade English Language Arts.
- Facilitate engaging classroom discussions and activities that promote critical thinking and effective communication skills.
- Assess and evaluate student progress through assignments, tests, and projects, providing timely feedback and support.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student participation and fosters a love for reading and writing.
- Collaborate with other teachers and staff to support interdisciplinary learning opportunities and school-wide initiatives.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance teaching skills and stay current with educational best practices.
- Manage classroom behavior effectively and implement strategies to support students' social and emotional well-being.
- Adapt instruction to meet the diverse needs of learners, including those with special needs and English language learners.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, grades, and other required documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field.
- Valid teaching certification in English Language Arts for middle school or equivalent qualifications.
- Previous experience teaching middle school English Language Arts preferred.
- Strong knowledge of English Language Arts curriculum, instructional strategies, and assessment practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Proficiency in using technology and digital resources to enhance instruction and engage students.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Availability to work full-time for the duration of the long-term substitute assignment.
