The Township of Old Bridge is seeking qualified candidates for Substitute Crossing Guard positions. These are part-time, on-call roles under the supervision of the Old Bridge Police Traffic Safety Bureau .
Crossing Guards play a vital role in ensuring the safety of children by assisting them in crossing roadways safely and modeling appropriate pedestrian behavior.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct and escort pedestrians, including children, safely across roadways.
- Control vehicular and pedestrian traffic as necessary to ensure safe crossings.
- Clearly communicate traffic safety rules and crossing procedures to students and adults.
- Recognize potentially hazardous traffic conditions and take appropriate action to prevent injury.
- Utilize a STOP paddle effectively, ensuring full visibility of the STOP message to approaching motorists throughout the crossing process.
Minimum Qualifications
- Good physical condition, including adequate vision and hearing, and the ability to move quickly to avoid potential hazards.
- Ability to clearly, firmly, and courteously communicate instructions.
- Ability to recognize and respond to potentially dangerous traffic situations in a timely manner.
- Mental alertness, dependability, neat appearance, good character, and a strong sense of responsibility for student safety.
- Ability to properly control and display a STOP paddle to approaching motorists during crossings.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must be a resident of the State of New Jersey.
Salary
Starting at $16.59 per hour , commensurate with experience.
