We are seeking a detail-oriented and dedicated Medical Billing Specialist to join our healthcare administration team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical billing processes, coding systems, and insurance claim procedures. As a Medical Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring accurate billing, coding, and collection of payments while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations. Your expertise will contribute to the smooth financial operations of our medical practice and support optimal revenue cycle management.
Responsibilities
- Review and process medical claims using appropriate coding systems such as CPT (Current Procedural Terminology), ICD-9, and ICD-10 to ensure precise reimbursement.
- Assign diagnosis and procedure codes accurately based on medical records and documentation, including DRG (Diagnosis-Related Group) classifications.
- Submit claims electronically through Electronic Medical Record (EMR) or Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems, ensuring timely and compliant submissions.
- Follow up on unpaid or denied claims through effective medical collections strategies to maximize revenue recovery.
- Maintain detailed and organized medical records and billing documentation in accordance with privacy regulations and organizational policies.
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to clarify documentation discrepancies that may impact coding accuracy or reimbursement.
- Stay current with updates in medical coding standards, insurance policies, and healthcare regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
Skills
- Proficiency in medical coding including CPT, ICD-9, ICD-10, and DRG classifications.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology to accurately interpret clinical documentation.
- Experience working with EMR/EHR systems for billing and record management. Preferred eClinicalWorks experience.
- Familiarity with medical billing procedures, insurance claim submission processes, and collections practices.
- Ability to analyze medical records for accurate coding and billing purposes.
- Excellent attention to detail combined with strong organizational skills to manage multiple claims efficiently.
- Effective communication skills for collaborating with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients.
