Overview
Join our team at St. Michael’s Episcopal Cathedral as the Cathedral Administrator/Business Manager and play a key leadership role in supporting our mission and daily operations. Working in a collaborative, collegial environment, you will partner closely with clergy, staff, volunteers, and lay leaders to oversee financial management and accounting, human resources, facilities, governance, and administrative operations. The ideal candidate is an organized, detail-oriented professional with strong accounting and business operations experience, proficiency in QuickBooks, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative approach to problem-solving and teamwork. A bachelor's degree and five or more years of relevant experience are preferred. This full-time, on-site position offers a salary of $70,000–$75,000, single health insurance coverage, retirement contributions, and paid time off. Duties
Financial Management
- Execute accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable (including donation management), and financial reporting. Oversee outsourcing for payroll functions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and internal controls
- Coordinate agreed-upon procedures and maintain relationships with external financial partners.
- Develop and manage the annual budget in collaboration with Cathedral Treasurer, Dean, and Vestry.
Operations & Facilities
- Oversee maintenance, safety, and security of cathedral buildings and grounds.
- Serve as primary point of contact for all operational and facilities issues and concerns.
- Manage vendor relationships, service contracts, and capital improvement projects.
- Manage office and kitchen supplies inventory.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Participate in the hiring of direct reports and oversee their performance management
Human Resources
- Provide guidance and direction to the Assistant Administrator/Communications, custodial contractor, and Thrift Shop Manager
- Oversee onboarding and benefits administration for all employees.
- Manage the schedule for liturgical, event and program volunteers.
- Maintain personnel policies and employee records.
Governance & Administration
- Support the work of the Vestry, committees, and leadership teams.
- Maintain current parish membership database, and ensure data access for key staff, including clergy and lay leaders.
- Prepare reports, maintain official records, and ensure proper documentation.
- Implement policies and procedures to improve organizational effectiveness.
Strategic Planning
- Contribute to long-term planning and sustainability initiatives.
- Analyze operational and financial data to support decision-making.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping practices and procedures, Quick Books, generally accepted accounting principles, and relevant legislation and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of database management and financial data analysis
- Communicate professionally in‐person, on phone, e‐mail and correspondence
- Strong attention to detail, good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize with changing situation
- Respect confidentiality of sensitive information/situations and documents
- Working knowledge of HR workplace and payroll regulations of relevant federal, state, and local government agencies, etc.
- BA or BS degree with concentration in Business Operations/Administration, or equivalent, preferred
- 5 years or more of recently applicable experience, preferred
Pay: $70,000.00 - $75,000.00 per year
