Position Overview
The Cook is responsible for preparing attractive, flavorful, and nutritious meals for residents, employees, and guests while maintaining the highest standards of food quality, safety, and sanitation. This role is essential to delivering an exceptional dining experience and supporting the overall mission of St. Camillus.
Food Preparation & Service
- Prepare and cook high-quality meals according to established recipes and dietary requirements.
- Portion and serve meals, salads, and desserts while maintaining presentation and quality standards.
- Ensure food is prepared safely and in accordance with state food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Follow special diet requirements and resident meal plans as directed.
Kitchen Operations
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including food preparation and dishwashing equipment.
- Maintain sanitary food storage practices and proper handling procedures.
- Follow the "First In, First Out" (FIFO) inventory process and properly label and date food items.
- Assist with dishwashing, cleaning cookware, and maintaining organized storage areas as needed.
Quality & Compliance
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe workstation at all times.
- Adhere to all food safety, sanitation, resident rights, and workplace safety standards.
- Participate in required training, department meetings, and in-service education programs. Support St. Camillus' commitment to exceptional customer service and resident satisfaction.
Qualifications
Required
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- ServSafe Certification or ability to obtain certification.
- Minimum of two years of cooking experience.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
- Basic math skills and ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
Preferred
- Experience in healthcare, senior living, long-term care, or institutional food service.
- Knowledge of commercial kitchen equipment and food preparation techniques.
- Experience preparing meals for individuals with specialized dietary needs.
