Family Centered Services of Alaska (FCSA) is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) corporation founded in 1989. The original founders of the organization were Fairbanks Alaska community members with a diverse range of professional backgrounds committed to helping children with a wide spectrum of behavioral health issues and mental illness. Today, FCSA is a large diverse organization with over 100 employees providing services in the Fairbanks area, Mat-Su Valley, and surrounding communities. FCSA provides services ranging from outpatient services, residential treatment care, educational support, and daytime child-care.
About the Job:
The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide medication management, administration, and monitoring of client medications. Develop and maintain records as necessary for the administration, dispensing, and disposal of all medications including over the counter (OTC) medications for FCSA clients. May provide physical screenings, as necessary for FCSA clients. Arrange for additional examinations or tests with local medical professionals. Provide health and medication training to FCSA clients and staff as necessary.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implement nursing interventions based on changes in client’s conditions, consultation with other disciplines and client/family needs and documenting responses.
- Makes clinical decisions independently based on scientific principles, systematic approach and experience.
- Administers medications and treatments as needed and appropriate charting.
- Proper initiation, follow-up and documentation of emergency procedures, e.g. seclusion, physical interventions, suicide precaution.
- Identify needs and secure supplies and equipment to provide client care; monitor use of supplies to insure appropriate and judicious use by staff.
- Ensure client medical records are current, monitor documentation, physician’s orders and physical; review client’s medications and treatments to insure physician’s orders are being carried out.
- Demonstrates ability to assume a leadership role in an emergency/crisis situation.
- Demonstrates the ability to function as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
- Demonstrates necessary knowledge of laws related to the reporting of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of children.
- Obtains, transcribes and carries out physician’s orders.
- Oversees the Medications Managers in the following:
- Provides direction and monitoring of medications for recipients who are receiving medications by medication aides- ensuring accuracy of administration, documentation and storage of medications.
- Determines competency of medication aides to provide routine and additional activities.
- Makes appropriate assignments to medications aides based on recipient safety and competency of medication aides.
- Attends and participates in unit/nursing meetings.
- Maintains credentialing privileges to implement emergency procedures including seclusion room placement and reassessment if applicable.
- Demonstrates ability to safely transport clients to and from program, school, scheduled appointments, and recreational activities in agency vehicles.
- Share on-call responsibilities.
Qualifications:
- All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations.
- Associate Degree in Nursing or Bachelor of Science in Nursing required.
- Alaska Registered Nurse license required.
- Two years of nursing experience as Registered Nurse, preferably working with children and adolescents preferred.
- One year of experience in psychiatry preferred.
- Interpersonal and leadership skills adequate to work effectively as part of a treatment team.
- Personal characteristics suitable to provide a positive role model for children and adolescents.
- Freedom from criminal convictions that may adversely affect the employee’s ability to work safely with children, contingent on a fingerprint & background records check conducted by the State of Alaska Division of Health Care Services Background Check Unit.
- Current first aid and CPR certificate or ability to become certified.
- Valid Driver license required. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.

Pay: $28.20 - $29.92 per hour
