The Utah Schools for the Deaf and the Blind (USDB) invites you to consider an enjoyable and gratifying employment opportunity with our school. We are looking for a caring and motivated Paraprofessional to work with our blind/low-vision preschool students under the supervision of an Instructor for the Blind/Low Vision at USDB. This position is located in Ogden.
Key Responsibilities
Roles & Responsibilities:
As a Paraprofessional you will:

Prepare teaching materials and tutor individual students under the supervision of the instructor

Communicate the progress of the students to the instructor

Perform such duties as may relate to the motivation and achievement of students in academic and skills areas

Assist with behavior interventions under the direction of the instructor

Assist with routine daily activities, i.e. bus duty, recess, lunch, bathroom (may include diapering), etc.

Provides support in a classroom environment by working directly with teachers and students.

Maintains accurate records and logs.

Designs and/or prepares training/instructional materials, teaching aids and devices.

This is a part-time position for nine (9) months (181 days) each school year.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position will possess:

Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
-
Enter, transcribe, record, store, or maintain information in either written or electronic form.

Ability to deal with strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students and/or lift over 50 pounds.

Ability to deal with risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations.

Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.
Preferred Experience:

Practical knowledge of basic classroom techniques and organization.

Techniques for assisting and providing effective support to classroom teachers.

There are risks found in potentially dangerous or unusual environmental stress situations, e.g. being subject to possible physical attack. Risks are related to the possibility of working with students who are non-compliant, self-abusive, and/or aggressive.

This position has strenuous physical requirements such as long periods of standing, walking, recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities and recurring lifting of students with limited mobility and/or their personal needs equipment. Must be able to lift and carry over fifty (50) pounds.

Successful completion of a criminal background check contingent upon employment.

This is a part-time position for nine (9) months (181 days) each school year. Work schedule Monday through Friday, thirty (30) hours per week.
