The Opportunity
The Sr. Assistant, Maintenance is responsible for assembling equipment and machinery to high quality standards while meeting production timelines. This role supports operational excellence by ensuring safe, efficient, and accurate machine builds while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives and delivering an exceptional customer experience. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, safety-focused, and works effectively both independently and as part of a team.
How You Will Impact Smurfit WestRock

Follow all safety requirements, including the use of safety glasses, safety shoes, and additional PPE as required.

Read and interpret assembly drawings, bills of materials, and specifications to plan and execute machine build operations.

Fit and assemble mechanical components according to engineering specifications using appropriate tools and accepted assembly methods.

Form, install, and fasten pneumatic lines, fixtures, and components required for compressed air systems.

Communicate build, quality, or documentation issues to operational leadership in a timely manner.

Complete torque and quality verification processes, including marking fasteners and signing required worksheets.

Assist with equipment dismantling, packing, and loading activities as needed.

Provide guidance and direction to supplemental assembly labor while ensuring adherence to company safety, quality, and operational procedures.

Support the training and development of apprentices and team members to enhance overall technical capability.

Maintain clean, organized, and hazard-free work areas that are customer-ready at all times.

Demonstrate flexibility to work overtime, including evenings and weekends, when business needs require.
What You Need To Succeed

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum of 2 years of mechanical assembly experience, preferably within the packaging or manufacturing industry.

Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings and assembly documentation.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time management skills.

Self-motivated with a flexible, positive, and "can-do" attitude.
