Responsibilities
- Perform thorough dental cleanings, including scaling and polishing to remove plaque and tartar buildup
- Conduct patient assessments by taking vital signs, medical history, and reviewing medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Assist with dental procedures using four-handed dentistry techniques to ensure efficiency and patient comfort
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) using appropriate medical imaging equipment while adhering to infection prevention protocols
- Educate patients on oral hygiene practices, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions to promote lifelong dental health
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR) using systems such as Eaglesoft or Dentrix, ensuring documentation review for completeness and accuracy
- Follow strict infection control procedures, including aseptic techniques and sterilization of dental equipment, to prevent healthcare-associated infections
- Support the dental team with chairside assisting during general dentistry procedures while maintaining a professional demeanor
- Ensure compliance with all HIPAA regulations by maintaining patient confidentiality at all times
- Review medical coding and documentation for billing accuracy and insurance claims processing
Experience
- Proven experience working as a Dental Hygienist in a busy dental clinic or healthcare environment
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems: OpenDental
- Hands-on experience with dental equipment including X-ray machines, ultrasonic scalers, and sterilization tools
- Strong understanding of infection prevention management and healthcare infection control standards
- Ability to perform pediatric dentistry procedures and work comfortably with pediatric patients is a plus
- Excellent patient care skills with the ability to assess patient needs accurately and provide compassionate service
