Position Summary
The HVAC Installation Lead Technician independently leads and performs the installation of residential and light-commercial HVAC systems. This role requires strong skills in duct fabrication and installation, the ability to lead a crew with limited supervision, and fluency in both English and Spanish. The Lead Technician ensures every installation is completed safely, efficiently, and to code while mentoring junior team members and maintaining high standards of quality and professionalism.
Key Responsibilities
Installation Execution
- Install split systems, package units, heat pumps, furnaces, air handlers, mini-splits, and rooftop units.
- Fabricate, install, modify, and repair sheet-metal and flexible duct systems.
- Install plenums, transitions, dampers, registers, grilles, and ventilation components.
- Run and connect refrigerant lines, condensate drains, gas piping, and low-voltage wiring.
- Complete equipment changeouts and new installations safely and efficiently.
- Pressure-test, evacuate, charge, and start up HVAC systems.
- Troubleshoot installation issues and verify proper airflow and system operation.
- Read plans, specifications, and manufacturer installation instructions.
Crew Leadership and Mentoring
- Lead installation crews on job sites, assign tasks, and ensure efficient workflow.
- Mentor and train junior technicians on proper installation techniques, duct fabrication, safety practices, and quality standards.
- Maintain clean, professional, and code-compliant installations at every site.
Communication and Coordination
- Communicate clearly with customers, supervisors, and crew members in both English and Spanish.
- Coordinate with the Field Operations Manager and project team to ensure materials, access, and timelines are aligned.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of HVAC installation experience (4–7+ years preferred for Lead role).
- Fluent in both English and Spanish.
- Strong experience with duct fabrication, modification, and installation.
- Ability to complete installations with limited supervision and lead a small crew.
- Working knowledge of HVAC codes, airflow, refrigerant practices, and electrical connections.
- Current EPA Section 608 certification.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift at least 75 pounds and work in attics, on rooftops, and outdoors.
- Must provide personal hand tools and demonstrate dependable, professional conduct.
Preferred Qualifications
- Residential and light-commercial installation experience.
- Prior experience leading an installation crew.
- Sheet-metal fabrication experience.
- OSHA training and manufacturer certifications.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
This position requires the ability to lift at least 75 pounds, work in confined spaces (attics, crawlspaces), climb ladders and rooftops, and perform tasks in extreme temperatures while following strict safety protocols. Work occurs in varied indoor and outdoor environments with frequent job-site travel.
Compensation & Benefits
- Hourly: $22 – $28/hr (based on experience and qualifications)
