We are seeking a Lighting Project Engineer to drive the full product development lifecycle from initial concept through engineering design, prototyping, testing, and launch. This role blends technical engineering expertise with cross-functional project leadership to deliver innovative lighting products that meet safety, performance, and customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead product development projects across the full lifecycle, from concept through launch and post-launch support.
- Translate product requirements into engineering designs, specifications, and manufacturing documentation.
- Develop and refine 3D models and detailed product designs using CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor).
- Evaluate design feasibility and reliability; balance performance, cost, manufacturability, and quality.
- Conduct engineering analyses and simulations (thermal, optical, mechanical) to optimize product designs.
- Collaborate with suppliers on component selection and sourcing considerations.
Testing & Compliance
- Oversee product validation, safety, performance, and compliance testing (e.g., electrical safety, photometric testing).
- Work with third-party labs and internal teams to ensure products meet industry standards and certification requirements (UL, DLC, etc.).
- Analyze test data and iterate designs to resolve issues and improve performance.
Prototyping & Iteration
- Lead rapid prototyping cycles, coordinate prototype builds, and hands-on evaluation.
- Drive design iterations based on test results, field feedback, and engineering reviews.
- Document design changes and maintain engineering revision control throughout development.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Partner closely with cross-functional teams — industrial design, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and marketing — to align requirements and schedules.
- Prepare engineering input for product roadmaps, cost targets, and production readiness reviews.
- Provide technical support to marketing for product collateral (spec sheets, manuals, presentations) and customer questions.
Project & Documentation
- Manage project plans, timelines, and deliverables to meet internal milestones.
- Create and maintain engineering documentation including drawings, BOMs, assembly instructions, and test protocols.
- Communicate technical status updates to leadership and stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Lighting industry experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Product Design, or related engineering discipline.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in product development engineering, preferably in lighting, electrical products, or related hardware.
- Proficiency with CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Inventor, Fusion 360, etc.).
- Understanding of lighting technologies (LED drivers, optics, thermal management), electrical safety, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with prototyping, test planning, and design verification.
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex engineering projects with cross-functional partners.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with lighting product standards and certifications (UL, DLC, ENERGY STAR).
- Knowledge of lighting photometrics and optical design software (e.g., AGi32, DIALux).
- Familiarity with DFMA principles and cost-effective design methodologies.
- Exposure to marketing support for technical product collateral.
