Job Title: Full-time Kindergarten Teacher
Job Description:
The PYP Kinder Teacher will provide homeroom teaching based on the planning principles of the International Baccalaureate - Primary Years Programme; where students are introduced to individualized, developmentally-appropriate instructional programs that allow them to gain confidence and engage in activities that promote inquiry, student agency, and a passion for learning. A competent and capable Kindergarten teacher at Discovery:
- Is able to communicate their expectations to students and families, and work with them to ensure they are achieving personal goals
- Consistently addresses the needs of individuals students
- Demonstrates the use of proven, research-based strategies for effective classroom management, lesson planning, active student engagement, and instructional delivery
- Supports our school’s shared vision and common goals regarding educating the whole-child, including knowledge, skills, and the development of the IB learner profile
Qualifications:
- A degree and corresponding teaching credential
- IT skill (Microsoft system and Google proficient)
- Experience in working with lower elementary aged children
- A passion for student-initiated learning
- First Aid and CPR training
Responsibilities Include:
- Measure student progress to encourage the mastery of state standards
- Celebrate individual and collective accomplishments by teaching the importance of self-improvement with an IB emphasis (learner profile)
- Create appealing lessons that implement a variety of methodologies
- Cultivate student awareness and ownership of personal performance
- Design, plan, and implement lessons based on state standards
- Ensure accommodations and modifications are made for the growth and development of all students
- Works collaboratively with school staff
Ongoing, daily duties of the Kindergarten teacher includes:
- Employing a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media that is consistent with the needs, and capabilities of individual students and/or groups of students
- Guiding students in maintaining acceptable standards of classroom behavior
- Maintaining records of individual student achievement and evaluating students on a continuous basis
- Preparing for classes and maintaining written evidence of preparation
- Upholding and enforcing school rules, school board policies, and administrative regulations
- Foster regular communication with all internal and external stakeholders
- Promote school and community relations by keeping the community aware of the learning in your classroom
Other:
- Supervision during breaks
- Participation in ongoing professional development provided by the school
- Attendance at school events as requested by administration
- Other tasks as assigned
Pay: $30,000.00 - $42,000.00 per year
