Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our Emergency Department team, specializing in trauma care within a Level I Trauma Center environment. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in emergency medicine, critical care, and trauma management, demonstrating a commitment to delivering exceptional patient-centered care. The RN will be responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients experiencing acute emergencies, including trauma and critical illnesses, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of safety, quality, and compassion.
Responsibilities
- Perform thorough patient assessments, including vital signs, physical examinations, and physiological evaluations to determine immediate needs and prioritize care.
- Administer medications and treatments accurately, including IV infusions, suturing, medication administration, and specialized procedures such as airway management and ventilator support.
- Utilize advanced EMR (Electronic Medical Records) systems such as Epic or Cerner to document patient information comprehensively and maintain accurate medical records in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicians, radiologists, laboratory staff, and specialists—to coordinate diagnostic evaluations such as CT scans, sonography, or laboratory testing.
- Provide emergency interventions for trauma patients utilizing critical care techniques, including trauma medicine protocols and acute pain management strategies.
- Manage complex cases involving infectious disease care, infectious control procedures, and patients with developmental disabilities or behavioral health needs.
- Educate patients and their families regarding treatment plans, discharge instructions, and follow-up care to promote recovery at home or in long-term care settings such as nursing homes or assisted living facilities.
- Maintain aseptic techniques during invasive procedures like catheterization or specimen collection to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
Requirements
- Valid US Driver’s License required; current RN licensure in the state of practice is essential.
- Proven experience working in emergency medicine environments with Level I or Level II trauma center exposure preferred.
- Critical care experience including ICU (Intensive Care Unit), PICU (Pediatric ICU), or neonatal resuscitation procedures highly desirable.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner; familiarity with ICD coding (ICD-9/ICD-10) is advantageous.
- Strong knowledge of physiology, anatomy, pharmacology, and medical terminology relevant to acute care settings.
- Experience administering injections, performing venipuncture (venipuncture), suturing, tube feeding management, and ventilator support required.
- Ability to perform physical examinations rapidly while maintaining composure under pressure during high-stakes situations.
- Excellent communication skills coupled with a compassionate approach to patient care; experience working with diverse populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental challenges preferred.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is mandatory; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is strongly recommended.
