Purpose: The Machining Setup Technician prepares CNC machining operations for production by setting up machines, tooling, fixtures, and programs to ensure safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing. This position serves as the technical resource supporting production machinists while ensuring parts meet engineering, quality, and customer requirements.
Job Responsibilities:
· Set up CNC machines for production by installing tooling, fixtures, work-holding, and machine offsets in accordance with approved setup documentation.
· Load, verify, and prove out CNC programs to ensure machines are production-ready prior to release to the machinist.
· Produce and inspect first-piece parts, making machine and tooling adjustments as necessary to achieve dimensional conformity.
· Verify that tooling, cutting tools, gauges, and required materials are available and ready before production begins.
· Troubleshoot setup, tooling, fixture, and machining issues to minimize downtime and maintain production schedules.
· Support production machinists by providing technical assistance during job startups and machine changeovers.
· Perform tool changes, offset adjustments, and setup corrections throughout production when required.
· Work closely with Engineering, Quality, and Production to resolve manufacturing issues and improve setup efficiency.
· Maintain machines, tooling, and work areas in a safe, clean, and organized condition while following all company safety and quality requirements.
· Perform other duties as assigned in support of manufacturing operations.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
· Minimum 5 years of CNC machining and machine setup experience.
· Ability to read engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing documentation.
· Working knowledge of CNC controls, cutting tools, work-holding, and machining practices.
· Proficiency using precision measuring equipment.
· Strong troubleshooting, mechanical, and organizational skills.
· Familiarity with AS9100 or regulated manufacturing environments preferred.
· High School diploma or equivalent; technical machining education preferred.
Authorities:
· Complete in-process inspection on any running product.
· Sign off work performed on router.
Physical Requirements:
· Must be able to perform visual inspections.
· Able to lift 50Lbs.
