Mechanical Engineer
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our foundry operations team. This role is responsible for supporting the design, maintenance, optimization, and reliability of mechanical systems and equipment used throughout the metal casting process. The successful candidate will play a key role in improving production efficiency, equipment performance, workplace safety, and operational reliability across melting, molding, casting, finishing, and material handling operations.

Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and improve mechanical systems and equipment used in foundry operations, including furnaces, molding lines, sand systems, conveyors, crushers, cooling systems, dust collection equipment, and material handling systems.
- Lead maintenance and reliability initiatives to maximize equipment uptime and production efficiency.
- Conduct root cause analysis of mechanical failures and implement corrective and preventive actions to reduce recurring issues.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance programs for rotating equipment, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems, and heavy machinery.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, electrical, and operations teams to identify opportunities for process improvement and equipment optimization.
- Manage mechanical projects including equipment upgrades, installations, plant expansions, and modernization initiatives.
- Prepare and review engineering drawings, equipment layouts, technical specifications, and maintenance procedures using CAD software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
- Oversee fabrication, installation, commissioning, and testing of mechanical systems and equipment.
- Monitor equipment performance and analyze operational data to improve reliability, productivity, and energy efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, environmental standards, and company operating procedures.
- Support foundry process improvements related to melting, molding, casting, fettling, heat treatment, and material handling operations.
- Coordinate with external vendors, contractors, and equipment suppliers on maintenance and capital improvement projects.
- Participate in plant shutdowns and turnaround activities to ensure timely completion of maintenance and upgrade projects.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in a foundry, steel plant, metal processing facility, heavy manufacturing environment, or industrial production plant.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical systems including hydraulics, pneumatics, rotating equipment, conveyors, pumps, compressors, gearboxes, and industrial machinery.
- Experience with preventive maintenance, reliability engineering, and equipment troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar design tools.
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
- Experience managing maintenance projects, equipment installations, and capital improvement initiatives.
- Knowledge of welding, fabrication, machining, and industrial maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with root cause analysis methodologies and continuous improvement techniques.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and project management skills.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a heavy industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with induction furnaces, cupola furnaces, molding equipment, shakeout systems, sand reclamation systems, heat treatment furnaces, or casting finishing operations.
- Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), Six Sigma, or reliability-centered maintenance practices.
- Familiarity with vibration analysis, condition monitoring, and predictive maintenance technologies.
- Experience with material handling equipment including overhead cranes and lifting systems.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification or equivalent is an advantage.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
