Job Summary
We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Procurement and Prior Authorization Coordinator to join our healthcare team. In this vital role, you will manage the procurement process for medical supplies and equipment, ensuring timely and cost-effective acquisition while maintaining compliance with healthcare policies. You will coordinate insurance prior authorizations for various treatments and procedures, facilitating smooth patient care workflows. Your expertise in medical coding, insurance verification, and health insurance policies will support our commitment to delivering exceptional patient service and operational efficiency.
Duties
- Coordinate the procurement of medical supplies, equipment, and pharmaceuticals, ensuring all acquisitions meet quality standards and budget requirements
- Manage insurance prior authorization requests for diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments by preparing documentation and submitting to insurance providers
- Verify patient insurance coverage through insurance portals and electronic health records (EHR) systems to confirm eligibility and benefits
- Collaborate with clinical staff to gather necessary documentation for prior authorization submissions
- Track and follow up on pending authorizations, ensuring timely approvals to prevent delays in patient care
- Maintain accurate records of procurement transactions, authorization statuses, and related correspondence in compliance with HIPAA and confidentiality policies
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT coding, ICD-9/10 coding, and medical billing knowledge to support accurate documentation and processing
Requirements
- Proven experience in a medical office setting or healthcare environment with familiarity in office operations and administrative tasks
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and electronic health record (EHR) management systems
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively with patients, providers, insurers, and team members
- Knowledge of clinical confidentiality policies and medical records management practices
- Ability to multitask efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
