The Physical Therapy Aide supports physical therapists and physical therapy assistants in an educational setting, providing care to The Midland School students. This role helps ensure that students receive appropriate care to improve mobility, strength and function within the school environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Primary Responsibilities:
- Student Assistance: Help students prepare for therapy sessions, assisting with positioning, mobility, or use of adaptive equipment.
- Therapy Support: Assist physical therapists during therapy sessions by helping students with exercises, stretches, or equipment use, always under supervision.
- Equipment Setup and Cleaning: Prepare therapy equipment and materials, such as mobility aids, exercise mats, or therapy balls, ensuring they are clean and in good working condition.
- Transportation: Help transport students to and from therapy sessions within the school, ensuring their safety.
- Record Keeping: Maintain spreadsheets, documenting equipment along with maintenance, as directed by the physical therapist.
- Classroom Integration: Support students in their regular classrooms by helping them with mobility and participation in physical activities, as needed.
- Communication: Act as a liaison between physical therapists, teachers, and other school staff to ensure students’ therapy goals are integrated into their daily routines.
- School Equipment Maintenance: Ensure adaptive devices such as wheelchairs, braces, or standing frames are properly maintained and accessible for student use.

- Attention to Detail: Able to follow the therapist’s instructions closely and ensure student safety.
Perform duties, attend evening meetings, conferences and any other duties as assigned by the Principal, Assistant Principal or Supervisor of Related Services;
Maintain professional communication that represents Midland School mission, culture, and values.
EDUCATION
- High School diploma or BA from an accredited college or university. On the job training provided;
- New Jersey Criminal Review Clearance.
- Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs;
- Intermediate to Advanced PC skills with proficiency in: MS Office, including Outlook;
- Able and willing to work well in a diverse environment.
