We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our product engineering organization. In this role, you will design and deliver backend systems that support a substantial base of business customers, contribute to key architectural decisions, and provide technical mentorship within a team of six engineers.
This is a position of genuine technical ownership. The successful candidate will influence engineering standards across the organization and play a central role in the continued modernization of our platform.
Technical environment
Our platform is built on TypeScript and Node.js, with React on the frontend, PostgreSQL as the primary datastore, and infrastructure hosted on AWS. The architecture is intentionally conventional, chosen for reliability and maintainability. Candidates should be aware that portions of the codebase are several years old; a component of this role involves leading its incremental modernization in a structured, pragmatic manner.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver features end to end, from technical proposal through to production deployment
- Conduct thorough code and design reviews that uphold and raise engineering standards
- Lead the resolution of complex technical issues, including performance optimization, data migrations, and production incidents
- Provide structured mentorship to mid-level engineers as a core component of the role
- Contribute substantively to architectural decisions, which are made collaboratively across the team
- Advise on technical feasibility and scope, including recommending against initiatives where appropriate
Candidate requirements
Essential:
- Approximately six or more years of professional software engineering experience, with significant depth in backend systems
- Advanced proficiency in TypeScript or JavaScript, or deep expertise in a comparable language with a demonstrated ability to transition
- A track record of designing production systems and maintaining them through their lifecycle
- Prior experience mentoring engineers
- Strong written communication skills; a substantial portion of our technical decision-making is conducted through design documents and pull requests
Desirable:
- Experience leading modernization or refactoring initiatives within established codebases
- Familiarity with AWS services and infrastructure practices
Candidates are assessed on the strength of their work and their technical judgment. Experience at prominent technology companies is not a prerequisite.
benefits
- Equity options, with full details provided prior to acceptance
- Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, with the majority of premiums employer-funded
- 401(k) with a 4% company match
- 25 days of paid time off in addition to company holidays
- Hybrid working arrangement, with the team typically on-site two days per week
- Equipment budget covering hardware of the candidate's choosing
Selection process
Our process comprises four stages over approximately two to three weeks: an initial conversation with the hiring manager, a technical interview based on practical, role-relevant problems, a system design discussion, and a final conversation with the prospective team. All candidates receive a decision and feedback, regardless of outcome.
