TITLE: MAINTENANCE SKILLED – GROUNDS
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to read basic operating instructions and communicate in writing.
- The applicant must have good health and personal hygiene.
- Exhibited leadership qualities.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
- Certificate or license in a specific skill, or equivalent experience desirable.
- Grounds experience preferred.
- Pesticide license required (3A, 3B and 6). Must be effective within 60 days of starting date of position.
- Must be willing to attend training sessions and/or classes to improve skills, as technology and/or school district’s needs demand.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

SUPERVISES: Not Applicable
JOB GOAL: Maintain and repair buildings, grounds and related equipment within established industry standards and district policies. Participate in preventative maintenance.
ASSIGNED RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Grounds Maintenance – Grounds leader, perform lawn cutting, trimming, edging, rubbish pick up to accomplish everyday tasks throughout the district.
- Field maintenance/preparation – Perform game set up. This individual will be responsible for the striping of all fields, field setup, field lay out, and field maintenance. This includes: soccer, football, track, baseball, and softball. This individual will be responsible to follow the electronic game calendar and will be required to have all fields set up and ready to go by game time. They will have to work with the athletic director and coaches to determine rain days and changes.
- Building Maintenance – Perform everyday repairs/maintenance on building components. These tasks shall include preparation and painting of walls, caulking, repair of door hardware, door adjustment, vinyl tile repair and ceiling replacement. Knowledge of hanging buildings components will also be required.
- Snow Removal – Perform snow removal when required. This position will require this person to be part of the snow and salt team for inclement weather. Support the snow leader to perform snow removal in a timely fashion throughout the district.
- Plumbing – Perform repairs to existing plumbing equipment such as, but not limited to, changing fixtures including replacing sinks, faucets and toilets. This shall include knowledge when changing valves and internal stems.
- Electrical – Make minor repairs and/or install electrical fixtures, switches, outlets, ballasts and motors. Assist the electrical leader in accomplishing tasks throughout the district.
- Mechanical – Make minor repairs and perform general maintenance on mechanical units including but not limited to rooftops, air handlers, chillers, unit vents, boilers, condensers, refrigerator and freezer units. Must be able to change filters, grease fittings, clean coils, replace belts and restart units. Will be responsible to assist the mechanical leader in everyday tasks throughout the district.
- This position will include experience in towing trailers/equipment and moving district items in a safe manner.
- This position will include knowledge on how to use power tools, scaffolding and mechanical lifts.
- This position will require knowledge of small engine repair and the ability to perform some vehicle maintenance including changing oil and some minor repairs.
- This position will require minor laundering, ordering parts and materials for various buildings.
- Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the Director of Operations, Maintenance & Transportation may assign.
- Follows all rules, regulations and safety procedures in accordance with the O&M personnel handbook and O&M safety handbook.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: In accordance with the negotiated contract.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Director of Operations and Maintenance or his designee.
