The Robotics Head Coach leads student teams through a competitive robotics season using the VEX platform. Coaches foster a student-led environment that encourages critical thinking, teamwork, and experimentation. This role involves mentorship, planning, and collaboration with volunteers to ensure a meaningful and well-organized season.
Hudsonville Robotics Center Hours: Monday–Thursday, 6:00–8:30 PM during competition season

Mentor and manage student teams across both middle and high school levels

Promote student ownership of robot design, build, programming, and game strategy

Organize and lead two weekly evening practices per team

Coordinate with volunteer adult coordinators and high school mentors

Oversee logistics: registration, engineering notebooks, tournament readiness, and safety

Prepare students for league nights and Saturday tournaments

Communicate regularly with families and program leadership

Guide younger students through hands-on exploration of robotics concepts

Create a positive, encouraging team environment with room for experimentation and growth

Promote teamwork, curiosity, and accountability

Lead one weekly evening practice per team

Coordinate scrimmages and tournament preparation

Communicate with parents and support volunteers throughout the season

At least one year prior robotics coaching experience.

Passion for youth mentorship and student-led learning

Strong organization, leadership, and communication skills

Familiarity with VEX robotics or willingness to learn (training provided)
