About the Role:
Cabell-Huntington Coalition for the Homeless is looking for a part-time Finance Assistant to join our mission-driven team in Huntington, WV. This is a meaningful opportunity to apply your financial skills while making a real difference in the lives of those experiencing homelessness in our community. Position will work three days per week. Assists with accounting functions for Harmony House, the representative payee program, and rental property - Vanity Fair, Heistad House, and Nelson Apartments. The employee is under supervision of the Finance Manager. Due to various resources and those resources’ guidelines, it is understood that managing Harmony House’s finances can be complicated.
DUTIES (in conjunction with the Finance Manager) Using QuickBooks Online
- Performs a variety of paraprofessional accounting functions required to ensure the accurate processing of all financial transactions and proper accounting for all funds received and disbursed by the agency.
- Maintains and reconciles subsidiary and control accounts.
- Inputs payables data for verified transactions; for accounts payable checks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; and assists in check runs and credit card payment and reconciliation.
- Receives and credits payments to appropriate billing accounts and to appropriate funds and cost centers.
- Prepares and reconciles deposit of payments received by mail, in person, and through EFT and ACH transactions.
- Payroll processing - collecting employees' timesheets and payroll data, preparing paychecks, preparing and paying taxes and filing required reports.
- Maintains accurate records and filing of records to include uploading and digital filing, organizing and archiving paper documents, retrieving data and files for use upon request.
- Assists Property Manager in recording transactions related to security deposits, rent collections and government subsidies.
- Assists with of compiling data requested by auditors annually.
- Abide by all personnel policies, as stated in the Harmony House Employee Handbook.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
- Knowledge of commonly accepted office procedures and business practices.
- Knowledge of basic record keeping methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of basic non profit accounting principles.
- Basic knowledge of computer systems related to accounting.
- Experience using QuickBooks.
- Good organizational and time management skills.
MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
High School diploma or GED
Valid Driver's License Required
Formal training or experience in general ledger maintenance, payroll, accounts receivable, accounts payable, nonprofit accounting etc.
QuickBooks Experience: 1 year (Required)
Pre-employment drug screen required.
