American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Inpatient position at an acute care hospital in New Mexico, requiring at least 3 years of MS/Tele experience and the ability to work in a PCU-level environment.

Acute care hospital setting with a 26-bed Med/Surg unit

Patient population includes medical, surgical, and PCU-level patients; no ICU on-site — critical patients are transferred to a higher-level facility

Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3–5

Nurses may rotate into the PCU area, where patients can be acutely ill and require drips, invasive monitoring, and similar interventions
-
Nurse aides are available on the unit at a 1:8 ratio, handling vitals, ADLs, I/Os, patient transfers, transports, and showers
-
Respiratory therapy is available in-house 24/7, with a dedicated RT on the unit during the day and one RT for the entire facility at night
-
Telemetry monitoring using Mindray cardiac monitors — nurses must be able to read and interpret tele strips independently

Titratable drips are used occasionally; common drips include insulin, amiodarone, and norepinephrine (Levophed), with multiple drip protocols in place
-
Charting system: TruBridge (Evident/CPSI)

12-hour day shifts, 7am–7pm
-
Every other weekend required

No on-call or standby requirement

No floating requirement for RNs

13-week contract

Active NM RN license or a Compact RN license currently in hand

Current BLS and ACLS certifications required

Minimum 3 years of Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) experience required

Ability to titrate drips (insulin, amiodarone, Levophed, and others per protocol)

Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips independently

PCU or stepdown experience preferred
-
LTAC experience is a plus
-
Experience maintaining intubation is preferred
-
Facility is actively working toward achieving Level IV Trauma Center designation and offers more clinical capabilities than typical for its size
-
Charge nurses take a lighter patient assignment; travelers are not typically asked to fill the charge role
-
Unit orientation is 1–2 days with a preceptor, depending on individual needs
-
Required online modules must be completed prior to working the floor; modules take approximately 20 hours to complete
-
Scheduling is based on 12-hour day shifts; block scheduling is not guaranteed and travelers are expected to be flexible in filling gaps in the permanent staff schedule

May be included in the holiday rotation
