We are excited to launch a new Public Safety Department. We are seeking three full-time Public Safety Officers to help build a safe, supportive, and service-focused environment for our patients, residents, visitors, and team members.
This is a unique opportunity to join a newly established department and play an important role in shaping the future of safety and security at Story Medical. Public Safety Officers will work closely with and provide 24/7/365 support our clinical and operational teams to strengthen the healing environment through proactive safety practices, de-escalation, emergency response, and compassionate service. As a Public Safety Officer, you will:

Maintain a professional and visible security presence throughout the facility.

Respond immediately to disorderly, aggressive, or hostile behavior involving patients, visitors, or staff.

Utilize de-escalation techniques to safely manage behavioral health and substance use-related incidents.

Assist clinical staff in managing patients in crisis, particularly in the Emergency Department.

Contribute to a calm and reassuring environment for patients and families.

Monitor access points and ensure secure entry/exit practices.

Serve as a resource to staff for safety-related questions and concerns.

Maintain strict confidentiality of patient, resident, and personnel information.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills:

High school diploma or equivalent required
-
Valid driver’s license required
-
Certification in de-escalation and crisis intervention (or ability to obtain)

Certification to carry and use approved less-lethal equipment (e.g., Taser) upon hire or within designated timeframe

Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred or required within specified timeframe

Strong interpersonal and communication skills
-
Ability to remain calm under pressure

Ability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately

Skilled in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques

High level of professionalism, integrity, and accountability

Individuals cannot be on the Office of Inspector General (OIG) Excluded Provider List

Must have legal authorization to work in the United States
Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills:

Associate degree or relevant training in criminal justice, public safety, or related field preferred

Prior experience in security, law enforcement, military, or healthcare security
-
Experience in de-escalation and conflict management
-
Experience working in healthcare or behavioral health setting

Understanding of patient-centered care in a healthcare environment

Starting Wage: $21.10/hour; Actual compensation is based on relevant experience, qualifications, and internal equity.
