Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity

Retail Leadership. A Mission That Matters. A Schedule That Leaves Room for Life.
You know retail—the pace, the people, the problem-solving, and the satisfaction of watching a team deliver results. But retail leadership doesn't have to look the way it always has.
At Richmond Metropolitan Habitat for Humanity, we're looking for an experienced ReStore Manager who can lead people, drive store performance, create a great customer experience, and keep a busy operation moving.
And there's something different about doing it here: your work helps support Habitat's mission in the Richmond community.
This isn't a behind-the-desk management position. You'll spend approximately 80% of your workday on the store and warehouse floor, working alongside employees and volunteers, engaging customers, and staying connected to the day-to-day operation.
What You'll Lead
You'll be responsible for the day-to-day management and performance of your ReStore, with ownership across people, operations, sales, customer experience, merchandising, inventory, and safety. You will also be directly responsible for the 30, 60 and 90 day planning to achieve prescribed sales goals.
You'll:
- Lead and develop people — Motivate and develop employees and volunteers, organize daily assignments, provide training and timely feedback, create schedules, review timecards, and participate in interviewing and hiring.
- Drive store performance — Accountable for monthly sales goals, oversee pricing and cashier transactions, operate within established budgets, and implement practices that help reduce loss and theft.
- Create a welcoming customer experience — Build strong, effective relationships with customers and address concerns and trends to foster sales growth.
- Own merchandising and inventory — Teach, train and delegate the donation processing, pricing, merchandising, and inventory while maintaining a clean, inviting, and well-organized store.
- Keep operations moving — Help drive donation acquisitions, support and lead driver teams, conduct ride-a-longs for donations, leverage best transportation practices, and ensure fleet safety.
- Lead with safety in mind — Reinforce safety procedures for employees, volunteers, and customers and help maintain a clean, hazard-free environment.
What You Bring
We're looking for someone who understands retail operations and knows that great results start with great leadership.
You'll need:
- Two years of college in a related field or equivalent work experience with a high school diploma or GED
- Retail management experience, preferably within home improvement or building supply
- Experience with inventory pricing, marketing, and budget analysis
- A valid driver's license, acceptable driving record, and access to a vehicle that can be used for business purposes.
- Strong working knowledge of the profit and loss statement, and effective steps to bring leverage to sales increases or decreases.
- Ability to be the lead trainer, mentor, coach and support to each associate and volunteer.
- Ability to partner well with support departments and corporate office staff to grow our mission to build affordable housing.
You'll also bring strong communication and interpersonal skills, sound business judgment, integrity, attention to detail, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a connection to Habitat for Humanity's mission.
Why Build Your Career With Richmond Habitat?

- Your Sundays are yours — Our ReStore leadership schedule is Tuesday through Saturday, giving you a consistent Sunday and Monday away from work.
- 37.5 hours is full-time here — This exempt leadership position is structured around a 37.5-hour workweek—a different rhythm from what many experienced retail leaders may be accustomed to.
- Time to recharge — Full-time employees receive 150 hours of paid time off, paid holidays, and an extended winter holiday break. Prorated at time of hire.
- Benefits that support you — Eligible employees have access to comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, along with additional employer-sponsored benefits.
- 100% employer-paid medical coverage for employees, plus an employer contribution toward dependent coverage.

- Get paid to give back — Receive 15 hours of Volunteer Time Off (VTO) each year to support causes and organizations in the community.
- Support when life happens — Our Employee Assistance Program (EAP) provides confidential resources and support for employees navigating life's challenges.
- Keep growing — Professional development opportunities may include training, certifications, conferences, cross-training, and other learning experiences based on role, organizational priorities, approval, and available resources.
- See the impact of your work — ReStore isn't retail for retail's sake. You'll work alongside employees, volunteers, donors, customers, homeowners, and community partners connected by Habitat's mission.
What to Know Before You Apply
This is an active, hands-on retail and warehouse leadership position. The role requires prolonged periods of standing or sitting, working in varying weather conditions, climbing a 20-foot ladder, lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds with assistance.
The position follows a Tuesday–Saturday schedule and requires consistent Saturday availability.
