Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent
Location: Tucson, AZ
Travel Required: Throughout Arizona and Southwest Region
Position Overview
A leading heavy civil construction contractor is seeking an experienced Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent to oversee grading, excavation, and earthwork operations. This individual will be responsible for managing field crews, coordinating heavy equipment operations, maintaining safety standards, and ensuring projects are completed on schedule and within specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise daily field operations on grading and earthwork projects
- Coordinate heavy equipment activities including scrapers, excavators, dozers, and related equipment
- Monitor production and track daily quantities of material moved
- Lead and mentor equipment operators and field personnel
- Ensure compliance with company safety policies and industry best practices
- Identify field challenges and implement practical solutions
- Collaborate with Project Managers and project stakeholders
- Manage cut/fill operations and site grading activities
- Interpret construction drawings, plans, specifications, and soil reports
- Oversee dust control requirements and environmental compliance
- Maintain project schedules and productivity goals
Required Qualifications
- 2+ years of Heavy Civil Construction Superintendent experience
- Experience with grading, excavation, and earthwork operations
- Previous supervisory or crew leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of heavy earthmoving equipment
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications
- Experience tracking production quantities and jobsite progress
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
- Ability to pass pre-employment drug screening
- Willingness to travel throughout Arizona and support long-term project assignments

- Residential development sitework
- Mass excavation projects
- Mining, transportation, landfill, energy, or infrastructure projects
- Training and development of equipment operators
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to walk uneven terrain, kneel, stand, and sit for extended periods
