Journeyman Pipefitter - Equipment Preservation

Experience 4+ years industrial pipefitting/mechanical experience required

Certification NCCER Pipefitter preferred, but not required
Position Summary We are seeking experienced Journeyman Pipefitters to support the preservation, protection, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical equipment on a large-scale data center project. This role is focused on keeping high-value mechanical assets in proper condition from receipt and storage through installation, startup, commissioning, and turnover.
This is an equipment-preservation-focused position rather than a traditional production pipefitting role. Candidates should be comfortable working around pumps, compressors, motors, chillers, heat exchangers, mechanical skids, valves, piping assemblies, and other mission-critical mechanical systems.
Minimum Requirements
- 4+ years of industrial pipefitting, mechanical, or equipment maintenance experience - REQUIRED
- OSHA 10 Construction Certification - REQUIRED
- NCCER Pipefitter Certification preferred, but NOT required
- Experience working with industrial mechanical equipment such as pumps, compressors, motors, valves, piping systems, and mechanical skids
- Ability to read equipment drawings, P&IDs, mechanical drawings, equipment schedules, and manufacturer documentation
- Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document preservation activities
- Ability to follow manufacturer and project-specific preservation requirements
- Data center, mission-critical, industrial, manufacturing, petrochemical, power generation, or similar experience preferred
Primary Responsibilities
- Perform scheduled equipment preservation inspections and maintenance activities throughout the construction lifecycle
- Inspect pumps, compressors, motors, chillers, heat exchangers, mechanical skids, valves, and related equipment for proper storage and preservation
- Verify equipment is properly covered, sealed, capped, plugged, and protected from environmental exposure
- Inspect equipment for moisture intrusion, corrosion, rust, contamination, physical damage, or deterioration
- Verify piping connections, flanges, nozzles, and equipment openings remain properly capped or sealed until installation
- Inspect and maintain protective coverings, temporary enclosures, weatherproofing, and equipment packaging
- Remove and replace damaged or deteriorated preservation materials as needed
- Perform preservation activities according to manufacturer recommendations and project procedures
- Rotate pump and equipment shafts when required by manufacturer preservation procedures
- Verify lubrication levels and perform approved lubrication-related preservation activities when required
- Inspect exposed machined surfaces, shafts, flanges, and other components for corrosion or deterioration
- Apply approved corrosion protection, desiccants, vapor barriers, or other preservation materials as required
- Maintain equipment cleanliness and prevent foreign material or debris from entering equipment
- Verify equipment remains properly supported and protected during storage and construction
- Support preservation activities before and after equipment installation through startup, commissioning, and turnover

Inspection & Documentation
- Complete daily and scheduled preservation inspection checklists
- Maintain equipment preservation logs and record equipment condition/status
- Document completed preservation activities and photograph equipment condition when required
- Identify equipment requiring corrective action and immediately report damaged or improperly preserved equipment
- Track preservation deficiencies through correction and closeout
- Verify preservation requirements are complete before equipment turnover
- Maintain accurate records for project management, quality, commissioning, and client review
Coordination Coordinate with Foremen, General Foremen, Mechanical Superintendents, Quality Control, Commissioning Teams, Mechanical Contractors, Electrical Contractors, equipment vendors, manufacturer representatives, warehouse/material teams, and project management to ensure preservation requirements are maintained as equipment moves from receiving to storage, installation, pre-commissioning, commissioning, and turnover.
Safety Requirements
OSHA 10 Construction Certification is REQUIRED. OSHA 30 is NOT required for this position.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to walk large data center construction sites throughout the workday
- Ability to stand, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and work for extended periods
- Ability to access equipment in mechanical rooms, equipment yards, and active construction areas
- Ability to safely use ladders and aerial lifts when required
- Ability to lift and handle tools, preservation materials, covers, and equipment components
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying temperatures and weather conditions
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, or alternate shifts as required by project needs
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is an experienced industrial Journeyman Pipefitter who understands that this role is focused on protecting the project's mechanical assets rather than simply installing piping. Candidates should be dependable, safety-focused, detail-oriented, and comfortable working around high-value mechanical equipment while maintaining accurate preservation records and identifying issues before they result in equipment damage or commissioning delays.
Pay: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
