Position Title: Scientific Program Manager, Full-Time

VMG is seeking a Scientific Program Manager to support the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), Division of Neuroscience, Movement Disorders and Neurodegeneration (MDN) Cluster. This position provides scientific, programmatic, and strategic support for a complex portfolio of extramural research grants and neuroscience initiatives. The Scientific Program Manager will evaluate scientific proposals, conduct portfolio analyses, coordinate high-visibility research initiatives, advise investigators and leadership, and support strategic planning that advances the Institute's mission in neuroscience research.
- Provide scientific and programmatic support for the NINDS Movement Disorders and Neurodegeneration (MDN) research portfolio.
- Evaluate grant applications and research proposals for scientific merit, mission alignment, responsiveness to Funding Opportunity Announcements (NOFOs), and overall programmatic impact.
- Manage and monitor assigned extramural research portfolios, tracking scientific progress, funding, milestones, and program outcomes.
- Conduct portfolio analyses to identify emerging research trends, funding gaps, scientific opportunities, and strategic priorities.
- Develop research plans, project timelines, implementation strategies, and operational work plans for scientific initiatives.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary scientific initiatives, workshops, conferences, technical meetings, and stakeholder engagement activities.
- Prepare scientific briefings, executive summaries, reports, presentations, manuscripts, newsletters, website content, and communication materials.
- Develop and review Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), research protocols, training materials, survey instruments, and policy documents.
- Collaborate with NIH leadership, investigators, grantees, and cross-NIH partners to implement research initiatives and improve program effectiveness.
- Analyze scientific literature and emerging research to support strategic planning and future funding priorities.
- Provide scientific guidance to investigators regarding proposal development, research priorities, and program policies.
- Support the development of new research funding concepts, initiatives, and Funding Opportunity Announcements (NOFOs).
- Monitor project performance, prepare progress reports, and provide recommendations to leadership for program improvements.
- Develop outreach and communication strategies that strengthen collaboration across the neuroscience research community.
- Participate in strategic planning activities supporting NINDS research priorities and long-term program development.
- Master's degree in Neuroscience, Biomedical Engineering, Cognitive Science, Biopsychology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Demonstrated knowledge of NIH grants management, funding mechanisms, and Funding Opportunity Announcements (NOFOs).
- Experience evaluating scientific research proposals and conducting portfolio analyses.
- Experience coordinating scientific workshops, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
- Knowledge of research conduct, scientific compliance, and extramural research administration.
- Strong project management, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent scientific writing, technical editing, and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to manage multiple complex scientific initiatives while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience supporting NIH, NINDS, or other federally funded biomedical research programs.
- Experience managing neuroscience or neurodegeneration research portfolios.
- Experience developing scientific policies, strategic plans, and program evaluation metrics.
- Experience organizing national scientific workshops, symposia, or collaborative research initiatives.
- Experience providing scientific guidance to investigators and reviewing grant applications.
- Familiarity with federal research administration, strategic planning, and scientific communications.
- Full-time position (40 hours per week).
- Monday through Friday schedule.
- Position is located at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in Rockville, Maryland.
- Telework is available in accordance with government approval.
