Position Summary
The Driver Safety Training Director is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing all driver safety, training, and compliance programs for LED Transportation. This role ensures that all drivers meet company, state, and federal safety standards while promoting a culture of safety, professionalism, and exceptional customer service across executive transportation, motor coaches, school transportation, wheelchair transportation, and shuttle services.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive driver training and safety programs.
- Conduct new-hire orientation and behind-the-wheel evaluations.
- Provide ongoing coaching, retraining, and annual safety certifications.
- Ensure compliance with FMCSA, DOT, PUCO, ADA, FTA, and Ohio regulations.
- Maintain driver qualification files and training records.
- Monitor driver performance using telematics, camera systems, and safety reports.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and customer complaints, identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Conduct ride-alongs and random driver observations.
- Instruct defensive driving, passenger assistance, wheelchair securement, emergency evacuation, and customer service training.
- Lead monthly safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Track and report safety KPIs, including: Preventable accident rate; Driver scorecards; Customer complaints; OSHA/DOT incidents; and Training completion rates.
- Work with Operations to improve routing, scheduling, and overall safety.
- Assist in maintaining satisfactory DOT safety ratings.
- Implement emergency response and crisis management procedures.
- Stay current on transportation industry regulations and best practices.
Qualifications
- High school diploma required; bachelor's degree preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of transportation safety or driver training experience.
- Experience with motor coach, executive transportation, school transportation, or passenger transportation preferred.
- Valid CDL with Passenger endorsement preferred.
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Smith System Instructor, or equivalent certifications are a plus.
- Strong knowledge of: FMCSA regulations; DOT compliance; Hours of Service; ADA transportation requirements; and Defensive driving principles
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and transportation management software.
