Radar Modeling, Simulation & Analysis Engineer – Electromagnetic Signatures
Signature Solutions, Inc. (SSI) is seeking a Radar Modeling, Simulation & Analysis Engineer to support electromagnetic phenomenology, radar signature modeling, target and terrain representation, data analysis, simulation verification and validation (V&V), and radar simulation development.
This position is well suited for an engineer, physicist, or applied mathematician interested in the physics of electromagnetic scattering and the development of high-fidelity radar models used in air and missile defense simulation, algorithm development, weapon system performance assessment, and threat validation and accreditation.
The focus of this position is physics-based radar signature and electromagnetic target modeling. The selected candidate will use computational electromagnetics, predictive modeling, measured data, and engineering analysis to characterize how targets and environments interact with radar systems.
Responsibilities
The selected candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists performing a wide range of radar modeling, simulation, and analysis activities.
Responsibilities may include:
- Develop high-fidelity radar simulation models representing targets, terrain, and other elements of the radar environment.
- Model and analyze radar signatures and electromagnetic scattering characteristics of complex targets.
- Work with both predictive electromagnetic modeling results and empirical/measured radar data.
- Perform radar cross section (RCS) and electromagnetic phenomenology analysis.
- Apply and develop understanding of physics-based electromagnetic scattering techniques such as Physical Optics (PO), Method of Moments (MoM), and related computational approaches.
- Learn and use industry-standard electromagnetic modeling and simulation tools such as Xpatch and SENTRi.
- Process, analyze, compare, and visualize radar signature and electromagnetic data.
- Develop MATLAB- and Python-based engineering tools for data processing, analysis, visualization, and simulation support.
- Perform verification and validation (V&V) of radar models and simulation components using predictive results, measured data, analytical methods, and engineering judgment.
- Conduct research and analysis involving advanced electromagnetic scattering theory and radar phenomenology.
- Support radar simulation development for air and missile defense applications.
- Support algorithm development and evaluation through development and analysis of representative radar target and environment models.
- Perform modeling and analysis in support of weapon system performance assessments.
- Support threat model validation, verification, and accreditation activities.
- Document modeling methodologies, assumptions, analysis techniques, results, and technical conclusions.
- Collaborate with engineers and scientists from radar, electromagnetics, software, modeling and simulation, and weapon-system disciplines.
Desired Technical Background
Candidates should have experience or academic background in several of the following areas:
- Radar systems and radar phenomenology
- Radar Cross Section (RCS)
- Electromagnetic theory
- Electromagnetic scattering
- Computational electromagnetics
- Radar signature modeling and analysis
- Target and terrain radar signature representation
- Predictive and empirical radar data analysis
- Signal processing and numerical analysis
- Modeling and simulation
- Simulation verification and validation
- Air and missile defense systems or simulation
- Scientific computing and engineering software development
Experience with all areas is not required. Candidates with strong fundamentals in engineering, physics, electromagnetics, radar, or applied mathematics who are interested in developing expertise in radar signature analysis are encouraged to apply.

Experience with electromagnetic modeling tools such as the following is beneficial:
- Xpatch
- SENTRi
- Other physics-based computational electromagnetic or radar signature prediction tools
Experience developing engineering algorithms, processing large scientific datasets, creating technical visualizations, or building analysis and simulation tools is particularly valuable.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a related technical discipline; ABET-accredited engineering programs are preferred.
- Advanced technical degrees are a plus.
- Approximately 0–10 years of related professional experience.
- Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong software programming skills and experience; MATLAB experience is particularly desirable.
- Ability and interest in applying physical principles and mathematical techniques to complex radar and electromagnetic problems.
- Ability to analyze technical data and communicate engineering conclusions.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary engineering and scientific team.
- Experience in air and missile defense simulation is a plus.
- Experience with physics-based electromagnetic scattering methodologies, including Xpatch, Physical Optics, or Method of Moments techniques, is a plus.
- An active DoD security clearance is a plus.
About the Role
This position focuses on understanding and modeling how radar energy interacts with physical targets and environments. “Target modeling” in this role refers to developing electromagnetic and radar-signature representations for use in high-fidelity simulations.
The engineer will work at the intersection of electromagnetic physics, radar systems, scientific computing, and modeling and simulation. Depending on experience level, the position provides opportunities to develop expertise in computational electromagnetics, radar signature prediction, measured-data analysis, scattering phenomenology, simulation development, and advanced radar modeling techniques.
Security Requirements: Candidate must be a US Citizen and meet eligibility requirements to obtain/maintain a Final Secret Security Clearance.
Remote work: This position does not support remote work. All work will be performed onsite at the government location on Redstone Arsenal, AL.
Salary: Final salary for this position is determined based on years of related experience and education background.
