Summary
BioGreen 360 is looking for a driven, hands-on start-up Controller who is excited to build, improve, and scale a best-in-class accounting function. If you thrive in a fast-paced, constantly evolving startup environment, embrace change, and enjoy creating processes from the ground up while adapting as the business grows, we'd like to meet you. This role requires someone who is comfortable with ambiguity, agile in their approach, and energized by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact alongside leadership in a rapidly growing organization. We are looking for someone who is passionate about our mission and excited to make a meaningful impact by helping build a more sustainable world.
This is not a traditional Controller role—it’s an opportunity to shape the financial infrastructure that will support BioGreen 360’s future growth. We are seeking a strong financial leader who can serve as a strategic partner to the leadership team while building scalable processes, driving financial discipline, and providing insights that support informed business decisions. You’ll lead all aspects of accounting operations, strengthen internal controls, improve financial reporting, and build a high-performing team by hiring and developing direct reports.
What We Do
BioGreen360 is transforming the way the world manages food waste through innovative, waterless, closed-loop technology that converts 100% of food waste into a reusable organic resource. Our mission is to eliminate food waste from landfills, reduce carbon emissions, and help organizations achieve their sustainability goals by creating a truly circular solution that benefits both business and the environment.
What You'll Do
- Build, document, and continuously improve accounting processes, procedures, and best practices to support a scalable, high-growth organization.
- Establish and maintain strong internal controls that ensure financial accuracy, compliance, and operational efficiency.
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close process, delivering timely and accurate financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Develop standardized policies and procedures for all accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and general ledger activities.
- Identify opportunities to automate and streamline workflows, improving efficiency while reducing risk.
- Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insights, budgeting support, forecasting, and cash flow analysis.
- Oversee the first financial audit and serve as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax advisors.
- Evaluate and implement accounting systems and tools that support future growth.
- Ongoing evaluation of the organization's accounting resource needs and recommend the optimal staffing model—including either full-time, part-time, contract, or outsourced support—to build a scalable, high-performing finance team.
- Hire, mentor, and develop your direct reports, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- As with any growing startup, this role requires flexibility, adaptability, and a willingness to take on responsibilities beyond those outlined in this job description. The ideal candidate embraces change, approaches challenges with creativity, and is eager to contribute wherever needed to advance the company's mission and support its continued growth and success.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred.
- 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership responsibilities.
- Experience in a startup or high-growth environment with a passion for building scalable processes, driving continuous improvement, and rolling up your sleeves to contribute wherever needed.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, and internal controls.
- Experience managing audits and working with external accounting partners.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks/ERP/accounting systems and advanced Excel skills.
- Strong communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- A proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven professional with the adaptability, initiative, and resilience to excel in a dynamic, fast-paced startup environment.
What Success Looks Like
In your first year, you will establish a strong financial foundation by creating standardized accounting processes and procedures, implementing best practices and internal controls, improving reporting accuracy and efficiency, developing a high-performing accounting team, and positioning the company for sustainable growth and audit readiness.
