Job Title: Prepress Specialist & Account Coordinator, Labels & Labeled Containers
The Role in a Nutshell:
We are looking for a rare hybrid: a technical Adobe Illustrator expert who actually enjoys talking to people. In our shop, perfection is the standard. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of a print job, from the moment a file hits our inbox to the moment it’s ready for the press. You’ll fix "broken" art, consult with clients on technical specs, and act as the right hand to our sales team to ensure every project is set up for success.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Technical Prepress (The Core)
- Deep-Dive Pre-flight: Perform exhaustive technical audits of client files for resolution, color space (CMYK/Spot), bleeds, and font integrity.
- File Remediation: Actively repair "bad" files: flattening transparencies, cleaning up complex paths, correcting bleeds, sizing, or textual errors.
- Production Setup: Build and verify technical layers for die-lines, spot UV, foils, and white ink backups.
- Imposition & Workflow: Manage sheet yields and imposition for various output devices, ensuring minimal waste and maximum efficiency
2. Client Technical Liaison
- The "Technical Translator": Direct communication with clients to explain file issues. You must be able to explain why a file won't work and provide clear, actionable instructions on how to fix it. In some cases it's faster to fix it for them and we expect you to take that opportunity.
- Proofing Management: Lead the digital and physical proofing process, ensuring clients understand and approve the technical specs (not just the "look").
3. Sales & Project Support
- Project Tracking: Manage the production timeline for jobs, keeping both the client and management updated on project status.
- Explaining label finish types and options offered to clients during the job creation phase.
- Administration: Condensing email and phone orders into our back-end system.
Required Technical Skill Set
- Master-Level Adobe Illustrator: If you don't know the difference between the Appearance Panel and the Layers Panel, this isn't the role for you. You should be a wizard with Pathfinder, Global Swatches, and Image Trace.
- Color Command: A deep understanding of CMYK vs. RGB, Pantone matching, and color profiles.
- Print Fluency: You must understand the "physics" of print: how different finish types, label stocks, etc. will impact the finished product.
Soft Skills (The "Account" Side)
- High EQ Communication: The ability to be firm about technical requirements while remaining helpful and professional with clients.
- The "Detective" Mindset: You enjoy digging into a messy file to find out why it’s not printing correctly.
- Extreme Ownership: In a small, boutique shop, you are the last line of defense. You take pride in that.
Pay: $50,924.12 - $58,525.18 per year
Benefits:
Experience:
- Adobe Illustrator: 2 years (Required)
- Customer relationship management: 2 years (Required)
