Why This Job Might Not Be for You
This job is rewarding, but not always easy. You’ll need to be comfortable with:
- Every shift looking a little different. You'll follow a predetermined route each day depending on which dogs are on the schedule.
- Expect to walk 5 miles in a shift.
- Rain, snow, and sun, we’re out there!
- You will drive from house to house, and a reliable vehicle is required.
- Part-time hours. This should be supplemental income. You’ll start up to 10 hours, and can work up to to 15–18/week

What We Ask of You
As a Tails & Trails dog walker, you'll deliver high-quality care, rain or shine. You'll follow each dog's care instructions, and manage a time-sensitive schedule. Strong written and verbal communication matters too, since you'll be sending visit updates to pet parents, along with solid time management skills to stay on track across multiple stops in a shift.
We value those who are proactive, detail-oriented, and good team players who communicate well and are open to learning. If you're the kind of person who wants to build real bonds with dogs, you'll do well here.
Basic Requirements
- Experience with animals (volunteer, personal, or professional) is a plus
- 18+ years old
- Available for 3 weekday shifts per week, for a minimum of 4 hours between 9A–4P
- Comfortable with dogs of all sizes and energy levels
- Willing to work in rain, snow, and heat
- Own a reliable, insured vehicle and be confident driving in Greater Portland
- Have a smartphone with data
- Able to pass a background check
- Punctual, independent, and team-minded
How Much Can I Make?
Pay ranges from $150–$400/week depending on performance and demand, with room to take on more hours as you grow with the company. Raises are based on performance and time with the company, and strong walkers will be able to take on additional responsibilities and roles in the company.
