ABOUT THE ORIGINAL PANTRY CAFE
The Original Pantry Cafe has served downtown Los Angeles since 1924. As we prepare to reopen this landmark restaurant, we are looking for a hands-on Floor Manager who can lead busy shifts, support employees, and provide guests with a consistently positive experience.
The Pantry is reopening as a social enterprise, combining the responsibility of preserving a Los Angeles institution with a mission to serve the community. This position plays an important role in bringing that mission to life through professional, organized, and welcoming restaurant operations.
ABOUT THE POSITION
Reporting to the General Manager, the Floor Manager serves as the primary on-the-floor supervisor during assigned shifts. This position coordinates front-of-house employees, manages guest flow, resolves service issues, and works closely with the kitchen to keep service running smoothly in a high-volume environment.
SCHEDULE
The initial schedule will primarily consist of closing shifts. Candidates must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays. The schedule may change as the restaurant’s operating needs develop.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead restaurant operations during assigned shifts
- Serve as Manager on Duty and the primary supervisor on the restaurant floor
- Assign stations and responsibilities at the beginning of each service period
- Coordinate employee breaks and adjust staffing based on business levels
- Monitor dining-room activity, guest flow, and service timing
- Provide clear direction, coaching, and support to front-of-house employees
- Maintain hospitality, cleanliness, and restaurant presentation standards
- Work closely with the kitchen and expeditor to maintain timely, accurate service
- Address guest concerns and manage service recovery professionally
- Complete opening, closing, cash-handling, and shift-closeout procedures
- Help ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, workplace safety, and company policies
- Communicate staffing concerns, service issues, and operational needs to management
- Assist with onboarding and training new employees
- Promote a respectful, accountable, and team-oriented work environment
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum of two years of restaurant management, supervisory, or shift-lead experience
- Experience working in a high-volume, full-service restaurant
- Strong understanding of front-of-house service and restaurant operations
- Ability to lead employees and give clear direction during busy service
- Sound judgment when handling guest and employee concerns
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced environment
- Availability to work closing shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays
- Experience with Toast POS is preferred
- California Food Protection Manager certification, or the ability to obtain it within 30 days of hire
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
