Automation Technician | Remote / Field-Based | 75-80% Travel
We're hiring an Automation Technician to join an industrial automation business serving automotive, medical device, consumer packaged goods and high-reliability manufacturing clients. This is a role for someone who genuinely enjoys being out on site building, commissioning, fixing and optimising automated systems, and being the trusted technical face of the business when you're there.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Installing mechanical and electrical components of industrial automation equipment across a range of manufacturing environments
- Supporting commissioning and startup: pneumatic and wiring verification, I/O checkout, functional testing and customer acceptance
- Troubleshooting and diagnosing faults across mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems
- Carrying out preventive and corrective maintenance, repairs, upgrades and retrofits on installed systems
- Reading and interpreting mechanical drawings, electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
- Working alongside controls engineers and project managers - you own the physical install and repair side, they own the programming
- Acting as the primary technical point of contact for customers during service and commissioning visits
- Providing training and guidance to customer maintenance and engineering teams
- Documenting your work accurately - field service reports, redlines, and more
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- 2-3+ years of hands-on experience building, installing, commissioning or servicing industrial automation systems
- Excellent troubleshooting skills
- Proven ability to lead technical work independently in the field
- Strong customer-facing communication and decision-making skills
- Willingness to travel 75-80% of the time and be away from home for extended periods.
Pay: $38.00 - $42.00 per hour
