Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Animal Shelter Worker to join our team. This role involves caring for animals, ensuring their well-being, and assisting with daily shelter operations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for animal welfare, strong handling skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experience with pet care and animal handling is highly valued, and training will be provided for specific duties. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of animals and the community. Shifts are 0800- 1200 5 days a week. Saturday - Wednesday. Shifts can be shorter or longer and are finished when the work is complete. Cats will be the main priority.
Duties
- Feed, water, and monitor the health of shelter animals, including dogs and mostly cats
- Clean and disinfect kennels, cages, and common areas to maintain a sanitary environment
- Assist with animal intake and adoption processes, including providing information to potential adopters
- Handle animals safely using proper restraint techniques to prevent injury or stress
- Provide basic pet grooming and pet sitting services as needed
- Administer medications
- Transport animals to vet
- Conduct dog training sessions or behavioral assessments when required
- Assist with heavy lifting of supplies or animals during daily operations
- Educate visitors about responsible pet ownership and shelter programs
Experience
- Prior experience in animal handling, kennel work, or pet care is preferred
- Veterinary technician or assistant experience is a plus
- Dog training or behavioral management skills are beneficial
- Knowledge of veterinary procedures and animal restraint techniques is advantageous
- Customer service experience is helpful for interacting with visitors and adopters
- Ability to perform lifting safely and efficiently
- Strong communication skills and a compassionate attitude towards animals and people
This position requires a genuine love for animals, attention to detail in care routines, and the ability to work collaboratively within a team. Candidates should be prepared to handle physically demanding tasks while maintaining a caring approach toward all shelter residents. You will be an independent contractor.
