SCOPE OF WORK: The Hydrologic Technician supports the Department of Water Resources by conducting field investigations, groundwater and surface water monitoring, environmental sampling, and technical data collection to support water resource management programs. The position is responsible for maintaining accurate field documentation, performing data entry and quality control, assisting with groundwater well inventories, mapping, and environmental studies, and supporting the operation and maintenance of monitoring equipment, drones, vehicles, and facilities. This role requires frequent fieldwork, collaboration with agency staff and partner organizations, adherence to established safety protocols and quality assurance procedures, and the preparation of routine technical and activity reports to support departmental objectives.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct groundwater and surface water sampling, groundwater level monitoring, and in-stream flow measurements in accordance with approved Quality Assurance Project Plans (QAPP) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Maintain accurate field records, including chain of custody forms, calibration logs, field notebooks, photographs, vehicle logs, and enter groundwater and water quality data into agency databases and document management systems.
- Verify well locations, identify aquifer characteristics and well uses, complete groundwater well inventories, assist with wetland inventories, and develop maps, graphics, and aerial imagery for technical reports.
- Assist with the planning, inspection, maintenance, and troubleshooting of real-time monitoring stations, piezometers, drones, and other field equipment to ensure reliable data collection and safe operation.
- Participate in environmental monitoring projects, including biannual fish consumption studies, prepare monthly activity reports, and support technical reporting for water resource management initiatives.
- Perform routine maintenance and inspections of department vehicles, field equipment, storage facilities, and property to ensure operational readiness and compliance with safety standards.
