Edgewater Animal Shelter | Edgewater, Florida
Edgewater Animal Shelter is seeking a dependable, organized, hands-on Lead Cattery Technician to oversee the daily operation of our cattery and help lead our Cattery Technician team.
This is not a desk supervisor position. You will work directly alongside the team caring for cats, cleaning and maintaining the cattery, and ensuring daily standards and responsibilities are consistently met.
We are looking for someone who notices what needs to be done, communicates well, follows through, and can confidently help keep a busy shelter cattery organized.
What You'll Do
As Lead Cattery Technician, you will:
- Perform all daily Cattery Technician animal care and cleaning duties.
- Oversee and provide direction to Cattery Technicians.
- Ensure the cattery is cleaned, stocked, organized, and ready for the public by 10:00 a.m.
- Monitor and enforce cleaning and sanitation protocols.
- Help train staff and ensure procedures are followed consistently.
- Monitor cats for medical or behavioral concerns and communicate concerns promptly to veterinary staff.
- Assist with medications, flea prevention, nail trims, fecal samples, intake, processing, and other routine care.
- Communicate daily with veterinary and front office staff.
- Keep assigned cat information and housing locations current in Shelterluv.
- Ensure adoptable cats have appropriate photos and help identify cats needing updated adoption photos or additional promotion.
- Assist adopters and other members of the public professionally and respectfully.
- Direct volunteers to appropriate tasks and ensure work meets shelter standards.
- Maintain food, litter, cleaning supplies, and other cattery inventory.
- Assist with laundry, donations, trash, and other shelter duties as needed.
We're Looking for Someone Who Is
- Dependable and consistently on time.
- Comfortable taking responsibility and providing direction to others.
- Extremely attentive to cleanliness and detail.
- Comfortable handling cats with different personalities and medical needs.
- Able to communicate professionally with staff, volunteers, adopters, and the public.
- Able to recognize when something is wrong and communicate it rather than assuming someone else will handle it.
- Organized and able to manage multiple priorities.
- Comfortable using shelter software and learning Shelterluv.
- Able to work independently while also functioning as part of a team.
- Willing to work hands-on. Leadership here includes doing the work, not simply assigning it.
Schedule & Physical Requirements
- Must be able to begin work by 7:00 a.m.
- Weekend availability is required.
- Must be able to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and work on your feet for extended periods.
- Must be able to bend, squat, kneel, and perform repetitive cleaning tasks.
- Must be comfortable working around animal waste, litter, odors, cleaning products, and the normal realities of shelter work.
- Closed-toe shoes are required.
Why This Position Matters
The cattery is more than a room full of cats waiting for homes. Good animal care depends on excellent sanitation, accurate records, strong communication, early recognition of medical concerns, and a team that knows exactly what is expected every day.
The Lead Cattery Technician helps make sure those pieces happen consistently.
If you are someone who takes pride in a clean, well-run animal care environment, enjoys working with cats, communicates clearly, and is comfortable helping lead a team while working beside them, we would like to hear from you.
Apply through Indeed with your resume and relevant animal care, shelter, veterinary, leadership, or supervisory experience.
