Join our dedicated healthcare team as an 11pm-7am Charge Nurse, where you will lead and coordinate nursing care during overnight shifts in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This pivotal role ensures seamless patient care delivery, maintains clinical excellence, and supports staff collaboration. As a Charge Nurse, you will oversee patient assessments, medication administration, and emergency response protocols while fostering a compassionate atmosphere for patients and their families. Your leadership will help uphold the highest standards of safety, compliance, and quality care during the overnight hours.
Duties
- Assume responsibility for the overall management of nursing operations during the overnight shift, including patient assessments and care planning.
- Supervise and support nursing staff, ensuring adherence to clinical protocols and safety procedures.
- Coordinate with interdisciplinary teams to facilitate timely diagnostic evaluations, treatments, and discharge planning.
- Monitor vital signs, administer medications, including IV infusions, and perform complex procedures such as catheterization or tube feeding as needed.
- Respond swiftly to emergencies or critical incidents, utilizing advanced airway management skills and trauma protocols.
- Ensure accurate documentation in Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems like Epic or Cerner, maintaining compliance with HIPAA and long-term care regulations.
- Conduct patient assessments focusing on physiology knowledge, pain management, dementia or Alzheimer's care, and infectious disease control.
Skills
- Proven experience working with diverse patient populations across settings such as hospitals (including Level I Trauma Centers), skilled nursing facilities, assisted living, or home care environments.
- Strong critical care background with expertise in ICU, emergency medicine, or acute care settings; familiarity with ICD-9/10 coding is a plus.
- Demonstrated leadership skills in supervising nursing teams during overnight shifts; ability to manage high-pressure situations effectively.
- Proficiency with EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth; experience with medical documentation and medical records management.
- Knowledge of infection control practices, medication administration including injections and venipuncture, and sterile technique.
- Excellent communication skills for caregiver collaboration and client communication; experience working with individuals with disabilities or geriatric patients preferred.
- Ability to perform physical examinations, vital sign assessments, specimen collection/processing, and basic life support (BLS) certification required.
