Merrick Academy Charter School is seeking dynamic, creative, and student-centered Enrichment Teachers to inspire and engage students through specialized instruction in areas such as World Language, Music, Art, Computer Science, Dance, Theater/Drama, Media Arts, Health, or other enrichment disciplines.
The Enrichment Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging learning experiences that cultivate creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and a lifelong love of learning. The ideal candidate fosters a positive classroom culture, supports the whole child, and contributes to a vibrant school community dedicated to academic excellence and innovation.

Merrick Academy is one of the first charter schools to open in New York City and the first to open in Queens (2000). With a rich history and deep roots in the local community, Merrick Academy is an all-inclusive, independent Charter School serving approximately 600 students in grades K-8.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Instruction & Curriculum
- Plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons within the assigned enrichment content area.
- Create meaningful learning experiences that foster creativity, inquiry, self-expression, and skill development.
- Utilize a variety of instructional strategies, technology tools, hands-on activities, and project-based learning opportunities to engage students.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, emotional, and developmental needs of all learners.
- Integrate opportunities for student collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication.
- Develop and implement assessments to monitor student growth and inform instructional decisions.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and achievement.
Classroom Culture & Student Support
- Establish and maintain a safe, inclusive, and respectful classroom environment.
- Develop clear routines, procedures, and expectations that maximize instructional time and student engagement.
- Build positive relationships with students that promote confidence, belonging, and a growth mindset.
- Support students' social-emotional development through positive behavior management practices.
- Encourage student participation, creativity, and ownership of learning.
Collaboration & School Community
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to create interdisciplinary connections and enhance student learning experiences.
- Communicate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and school leadership.
- Participate in grade-level meetings, professional development, curriculum planning, and school-wide initiatives.
- Support school events, showcases, performances, exhibitions, assemblies, and community celebrations.
- Contribute positively to the school's culture and mission.
Professional Responsibilities
- Maintain professional knowledge by participating in ongoing professional learning opportunities.
- Utilize student data and feedback to continuously improve instructional practices.
- Demonstrate flexibility and adaptability in meeting the evolving needs of students and the school community.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by school leadership.
Qualifications & Behavioral Competencies
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field relevant to the assigned enrichment area.
- New York State Teaching Certification (or eligibility to obtain certification).
- Experience working with elementary-aged students preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to create engaging and student-centered learning experiences.

Pay: $60,000.00 - $100,000.00 per year
