Elementary Dean of Students Position Summary
The Elementary Dean of Students serves as the school's lead behavior specialist and culture builder for grades K-5. The Dean is responsible for creating and maintaining a positive, safe, and supportive learning environment through the implementation of Restorative PBIS practices, proactive behavior supports, student coaching, and family partnerships. The Dean works closely with teachers, counselors, intervention staff, and administrators to ensure students develop the social, emotional, and behavioral skills necessary for academic success.
The ideal candidate is passionate about restorative practices, skilled in de-escalation and conflict resolution, and committed to helping students learn from mistakes while maintaining high expectations for behavior and accountability.
Essential ResponsibilitiesSchool Culture and Climate
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and student-centered school culture.
- Serve as a visible presence throughout the school during arrival, dismissal, transitions, lunch, recess, and special events.
- Build positive relationships with students, staff, and families.
- Promote a culture of respect, responsibility, empathy, and accountability.
- Collaborate with school leadership to develop and sustain a strong school-wide behavior vision.
Restorative PBIS Leadership
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of the school's Restorative PBIS framework.
- Coordinate school-wide behavior expectations, incentives, celebrations, and recognition programs.
- Facilitate restorative circles, mediation sessions, and restorative conferences.
- Train staff on restorative practices, relationship-building strategies, and effective behavior interventions.
- Monitor fidelity of PBIS implementation across classrooms and common areas.
- Analyze behavior data to identify trends and develop proactive intervention plans.
Student Behavior Support
- Respond to student behavior incidents using restorative and trauma-informed approaches.
- Conduct student conferences focused on reflection, accountability, and problem-solving.
- Develop and monitor behavior intervention plans for students requiring additional support.
- Collaborate with teachers to implement classroom-based behavior strategies.
- Support students in developing self-regulation, conflict resolution, and social-emotional skills.
- Work alongside the MTSS team to coordinate Tier II and Tier III behavior interventions.
Family and Community Engagement
- Build strong partnerships with families to support student success.
- Communicate proactively regarding behavior concerns and student progress.
- Facilitate restorative conferences involving students, families, and staff when appropriate.
- Connect families with community resources and support services as needed.
Data and Compliance
- Maintain accurate behavior records and documentation.
- Monitor discipline data and prepare reports for school leadership.
- Ensure disciplinary procedures comply with school policies, state regulations, and student rights.
- Utilize behavior data to drive decision-making and intervention planning.
Staff Coaching and Collaboration
- Provide coaching and support to teachers on behavior management and restorative practices.
- Participate in MTSS, student support, and problem-solving teams.
- Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and special education staff to support students with behavioral needs.
- Assist with professional development related to behavior management and school culture.
QualificationsRequired
- Bachelor's degree in Education, School Counseling, Social Work, Psychology, or related field.
- Minimum of three years of successful experience working with elementary-aged students.
- Experience implementing PBIS and restorative practices.
- Strong knowledge of child development and behavior intervention strategies.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, Counseling, Social Work, or related field.
- Administrative licensure or leadership experience.
- Experience in a Title I or diverse school setting.
- Training in Restorative Practices, Trauma-Informed Care, CPI, or similar behavior support frameworks.
- Experience leading school-wide behavior initiatives.

Physical Requirements

Salary Commensurate with Experience
Pay: $50,397.32 - $74,284.95 per year
