Job Overview
A Pharmacy Technician/Biller assists the Pharmacist and Billing Manager with prescription management and communicates with physicians’ practices regarding patient medications. A Pharmacy Technician will communicate with patients, physicians, and clinicians to field questions about medications and address customer service issues.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Answer incoming phone calls and field patient questions
- Contact physicians/practitioners to clarify prescription information
- Disburse verified prescriptions by either a physician or pharmacist to patients
- Collect and enter demographic data obtained from the patient such as, but not limited to drug allergies, home medications, birthdate, address and telephone numbers
- Package and label prescriptions
- Verify insurance benefits
- Counsel patients on financial responsibilities
- Initiate prior authorizations for medications and follow up as required
- Submit claims to insurance, post payments, reconcile denials and submit corrected claims
- Contact foundations and other organizations to assist patients with lowering the cost of medications
- Maintain appropriate drug inventory including purchasing of medications and obtaining samples (PDP only)
- Conduct monthly inspections of PDP for out dated and adulterated medications
- Address customer service issues as they arrive
- Other duties as assigned
HIPPA Requirements
A Pharmacy Technician will have access to PHI in the course of carrying out his/her duties. PHI will be used to provide medications to patients, evaluate medication profiles for quality of care and safety and to consult with providers regarding patients’ medications.
Pay: From $21.00 per hour
