Role Overview
Academian is seeking a Subject Matter Expert (SME Reviewer) for Secondary Digital Art & Design Education to support the development, review, and validation of Career and Technical Education (CTE) course content throughout the development lifecycle.
This role will support the following course:
Middle School Digital Art & Design
The SME will provide subject matter expertise to ensure content accuracy, instructional quality, age appropriateness, and alignment with secondary digital arts, visual arts, and design education standards.
The ideal candidate has experience teaching Digital Art & Design at the middle school level, with high school instruction considered as a secondary preference. The SME will work closely with Instructional Designers, content developers, project teams, and client stakeholders to review learning materials, validate content, and provide recommendations that support engaging and effective learning experiences for middle school learners.
Subject Area Expertise
The ideal SME should have experience in digital art, graphic design, visual arts, digital media, multimedia design, art education, or related fields.
The SME should be able to provide guidance and validate content related to:
- Principles of digital art and design
- Elements and principles of design
- Digital illustration and image editing
- Graphic design fundamentals
- Typography and layout design
- Color theory and visual communication
- Digital drawing and creative workflows
- Design thinking and creative problem-solving
- Digital media production and publishing
- File formats and digital asset management
- Copyright, digital citizenship, and ethical use of digital media
- Digital art and creative career exploration
Key Responsibilities
Content Review & Validation
- Review and validate course content for accuracy, relevance, and alignment with course objectives.
- Review Course Design Documents (CDD), storyboards, lessons, activities, and instructional materials.
- Provide detailed subject matter feedback, recommendations, and revisions as needed.
- Ensure content reflects current digital art and design practices and is appropriate for middle school learners.
- Identify content gaps, inaccuracies, outdated information, or opportunities for enhancement.
Content Input
- Provide digital art and design resources, examples, and industry best practices to inform course development.
- Support instructional designers by providing real-world applications and age-appropriate learning experiences.
- Recommend updates based on current digital design trends, creative technologies, and educational standards.
- Provide guidance on learner engagement and instructional relevance.
Assessment Review
- Review and validate assessments for content accuracy, rigor, and alignment with learning objectives.
- Ensure assessments appropriately measure learner understanding and application of digital art and design concepts.
- Provide recommendations to strengthen learner mastery and engagement.
Quality Assurance & Collaboration
- Participate in quality assurance reviews and content validation activities.
- Collaborate with Instructional Designers, writers, editors, and project stakeholders.
- Provide subject matter clarification throughout the development process.
- Support review cycles based on project requirements.
- Participate in project meetings and review sessions as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Digital Art, Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Multimedia Design, Digital Media, Art Education, or a related field; relevant advanced industry certification may also be considered.
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience teaching Digital Art & Design, Graphic Design, Visual Arts, Digital Media, or related courses, with middle school teaching experience strongly preferred; high school experience considered as a secondary preference.
- Experience supporting secondary education, Career and Technical Education (CTE), visual arts, or digital media programs preferred.
- Strong understanding of digital art, graphic design, creative software, and visual communication principles.
- Strong analytical, communication, and content review skills.
- Ability to provide constructive, actionable feedback within established timelines.
- Strong verbal and written English communication skills required to collaborate effectively with project teams and stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience teaching middle school Digital Art & Design, Graphic Design, Digital Media, or Visual Arts courses.
- Experience using industry-standard creative software such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Express, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Procreate, or similar digital design tools.
- Teaching certification in Art, Digital Media, Career and Technical Education (CTE), Technology Education, or a related field preferred.
- Experience developing or reviewing curriculum, instructional materials, assessments, or digital learning content.
- Familiarity with national or state visual arts, digital media, or CTE standards.
- Experience collaborating with instructional design teams or educational technology platforms.
Engagement Expectations
- Project duration: Approximately 6 months per course.
- Expected commitment: Approximately 2–3 hours per day during active review phases.
- Participate in scheduled review cycles and project meetings.
- Provide timely feedback on assigned deliverables.
- Support the successful development of high-quality, industry-aligned learning experiences.
- Must be available to participate in meetings and project discussions during U.S. business hours as required.
Pay: $35.00 - $40.00 per hour
