Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation and portioning of meals according to dietary guidelines and resident preferences
- Serve meals with a friendly, professional demeanor, ensuring timely delivery to residents
- Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of kitchen and dining areas following food safety protocols and JCAHO standards
- Operate kitchen equipment safely, including ovens, mixers, and dishwashers, adhering to workplace safety policies
- Handle food with proper hygiene practices, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) and practicing safe food handling techniques
- Support the dietary department by bussing tables, cleaning utensils, and assisting with food storage and inventory management
- Ensure compliance with all dietary requirements for residents, including special diets and allergy considerations
Qualifications
- Previous assisted living or nursing home experience is highly preferred; experience working with geriatric patients is a plus
- Food production or culinary experience within the food industry or healthcare setting is desirable
- Knowledge of food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and safe lifting practices is essential
- Strong time management skills to handle meal preparation efficiently during busy periods
- Ability to operate kitchen equipment safely and perform manual handling tasks involving heavy lifting when necessary
- Excellent customer service skills with a compassionate approach toward residents’ needs
- Basic math skills for portioning and inventory checks; familiarity with dietary guidelines or dietetics is advantageous
- Certification in CPR and knowledge of workplace safety protocols are preferred but not mandatory
