We are seeking an experienced Project Accountant to support the financial operations of a fast-paced commercial construction company. This role is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who enjoys working closely with project teams and leadership to ensure accurate financial reporting, project cost management, and billing.
The successful candidate will have experience in construction accounting and an understanding of the unique financial requirements of managing multiple projects simultaneously.
What You'll Do
As our Project Accountant, you will:
- Manage project-related accounting from project setup through closeout.
- Monitor job costs and analyze project financial performance.
- Prepare progress billings, time and material invoices, and contract-based billing.
- Track change orders, retainage, and contract balances.
- Process vendor and subcontractor invoices while ensuring compliance with contract requirements.
- Coordinate subcontractor payments and maintain vendor documentation.
- Reconcile project costs and assist with monthly financial reporting.
- Prepare profitability reports, budget analyses, and cost variance reports.
- Partner with project managers to monitor budgets and improve financial performance.
- Assist with payroll cost allocations and labor reporting.
- Maintain organized accounting records for audits, insurance requests, and internal reporting.
- Support continuous improvement of accounting processes and financial controls.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Three or more years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
- Strong understanding of:
- Job costing
- Construction contracts
- Progress billing
- Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable
- Financial reporting
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with accounting software and construction management systems.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with operations and project teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Experience supporting commercial construction projects.
- Knowledge of project profitability analysis and budget forecasting.
