Pay range: $27.85 - $45.25 / hour

Our laboratory team at the UAB Hospital Emergency Department operates in a true STAT environment where rapid, accurate results support immediate decisions for emergency and critical patients at the state’s first ACS-verified adult Level I Trauma Center. You’ll collaborate closely with emergency providers and care teams to keep quality patient care moving without delay. This role is ideal if you thrive in high-acuity settings and want to see your contributions and expertise make a visible difference in real time.
To perform, interpret, check accuracy and report results on routine and complex laboratory procedures on body tissues, fluids, and other substances according to laboratory procedure manuals. To evaluate new instruments and/or methods, assuring correct reagent preparation and quality control information, leading troubleshooting efforts and monitoring the performance of equipment maintenance. May perform apheresis and/or bone marrows or coordinate the education, computer operations, quality control/quality assurance duties, and assume the supervisory function within a section as requested.
Bachelor's degree in Clinical Laboratory or a related field and one (1) year of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. Currently credentialed as a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) OR currently certified as a Medical Technologist (MT) by the American Medical Technologists (AMT) required. Additional credentials may be recognized for the Blood Bank, Molecular and Microbiology departments. Depending on the unit/department or if the position works directly with patients, Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) from the American Heart Association (AHA) may be required or required to be obtained within 30 days of employment.
