Job Summary
The Delivery Driver is responsible for safely and efficiently delivering fresh produce to customers while providing excellent customer service. The role includes ensuring all deliveries and related paperwork are processed accurately, complying with all safety and transportation regulations, and representing the company in a professional manner.
Essential Job Functions
The following duties are considered essential and are required to perform the job successfully:
- Report to Dispatch daily to receive route sheets, delivery schedule, and assigned vehicle.
- Wear Worldwide Produce apparel and I.D. badge at all times while on duty.
- Maintain a clean and professional appearance; safety shoes and head coverings are required inside the warehouse.
- Verify truck contents against invoices prior to leaving the facility.
- Review all invoices for payment terms. For C.O.D. customers, contact the office if payment is not available.
- Complete all credit forms clearly and accurately with detailed information.
- Ensure that no deliveries are left outdoors; contact Dispatch immediately if a customer is not available to receive the order.
- Lock truck cab and cargo box when making deliveries.
- Complete route sheets fully and accurately, including delivery times, temperature readings, breaks, and route adjustments.
- Ensure all invoices are signed by customers and returned in clean, legible condition.
- Obtain prior approval from Dispatch before parking in restricted areas; unapproved parking violations may result in driver responsibility.
- Report all delays, accidents, or traffic issues immediately to Dispatch or a Manager.
- When picking up products from vendors, ensure all items are received by the Receiving Department; drivers must remain on-site until receipt is complete.
- Use wheel chocks (truck blocks) during every delivery stop.
- Keep truck curtains closed at all times to maintain product temperature and security.
- Follow proper lifting techniques and never place yourself in unsafe positions while unloading.
- Report to Dispatch prior to clocking out to confirm completion of all deliveries and check for any secondary assignments.
- Utilize all assigned technology and electronic systems properly and as trained.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local transportation and safety regulations, including DOT and Cal/OSHA standards.
- Comply with all company safety, PPE, and injury prevention policies.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience:
- Must possess a valid driver’s license issued by the State of California and maintain a clean driving record.
- Must be 24 years or older.
- Breaking down pallet experience.
- Minimum 4 years of commercial driving experience (5 years preferred).
- Knowledge of the local Southern California delivery areas preferred.
- Knowledge of basic produce items, grading scales, and maturity stages (preferred).
- Must be able to read, write, and communicate in English; bilingual (English/Spanish) plus.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Basic math and documentation accuracy.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Familiarity with GPS or route-tracking systems.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and lift or move objects up to 50 pounds repetitively.
- Frequently push, pull, or maneuver hand trucks or pallet jacks.
- Exposure to varying temperature environments (coolers, freezers, outdoor heat).
- Regularly operates commercial vehicles and warehouse equipment.
- May work early mornings, weekends, or holidays as scheduled.
- Must wear always required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including safety shoes, reflective vest, gloves, and hearing/eye protection where applicable.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
