VII Principles USA(VIIP) values the importance of establishing partnerships with clients to provide a holistic approach to food safety. The Food Safety Specialist (FSS) serves a critical role at VIIP to achieve this mission. The Food Safety Specialist provides consultation on food safety programs and best practices to a wide array of clients in the food and beverage industry. This will be achieved through education, training, and evaluation of clients’ food safety program, in accordance with company, local, state, and federal regulatory guidance (e.g. FDA & USDA). Through detailed food safety and sanitation inspections, the FSS will identify operational and system hazards. The implementation of active managerial program will mitigate risk and ensure our partners operate with a heighted awareness of food safety.
Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed facility inspections that assess conformance with regulatory, industry and company standards
- Provide training to management and staff on proper food handling, sanitation and hygiene practices to minimize risk of contamination
- Perform root cause analysis investigations of complaints pertaining to food-borne illness
- Partner with clients to implement corrective actions to mitigate critical risk factors that may be detrimental to an operation
- Act as a liaison between various regulatory agencies and client personnel
- Collaborate with government agencies, auditors and other stakeholders to ensure compliance with food safety regulations and certifications
- Support VIIP quality and continuous improvement processes
- Adhere to all required VIIP protocols and procedures
- Establish and sustain positive relationships with clientele
- Perform other administrative and/or operational tasks as required
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, food safety, public health, microbiology or a related field
- Minimum of 2 years of food safety experience in retail and/or manufacturing
- ServSafe and CP-FS or REHS
- Strong understanding of food safety principles, federal and/or state regulations, and developing food safety standards is essential
- Knowledge of HACCP, GMP/GRP, FDA, and food safety management systems
- Outgoing, passionate and great with client relationships
- Self Starter
- Ability to provide clear and constructive feedback in a positive manner
- Approachable to internal and external personnel
- Active listening and communication skills
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Must be able to work in both a team and independent environments
- Detail oriented, with excellent verbal and written skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
- Ability to work a flexible schedule based on business needs
- Open to travel via car or public transportation (10-25% of travel)

Pay: $45,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
